(opinion piece)
With le me's not-guaranteed, but imminent re-taking of #1, I want to acknowledge that he deserves more credit than I think he's given. Everyone is going to say how he got it because of his bank. It's true that the biggest bank wins, but there's more to it than that.
This is a complex skill with not always a straight trajectory to fastest methods. To be most efficient at every step of the way takes creativity and quick thinking and testing. le me already proved he could do that with invention; Jagex drastically changed that skill so many times before anyone got 200m that it took skill to quickly and efficiently find the new fastest methods. Scuzzy lost because he ultimately chose a slower method and he bragged about his method on livestream. le me quietly and carefully found the best methods and beat him even when he was behind.
Could someone do the same in the next few hours to le me, like he did to Scuzzy? Maybe. I doubt it (looking at the math and how everyone seems to have drained their artefacts). No, le me deserves credit for being a legitimately good player at efficiently playing a new skill. His bank alone would not have put him on top. Maybe in the next few days we'll learn more about his methods, and realize he was doing some better methods than those close to his rank. Only time will tell. But let's not oversimplify the narrative.
