They say it is an elite dungeon, so it is automatically a torture chamber. I hate the thought of it. ED1 is [a] black mark on the gaming industry.

EDs aren't too terrible bad inherently, it's the rarity of the drops and the time taken to complete them that makes them awful, super-burnout experiences - and the fact that the best drops are always on the 2nd or final boss so you feel obligated to finish once you start one. Not that that's a bad thing necessarily, but it definitely makes the experience less fun when someone has to go (I'm not talking about you, soloers) and then you have to disband and wait for your partner(s) to (both) be back online and available again. Not to mention, if a week passes, the group and all progress gets wiped so you're fucked if this happens on a Tuesday before reset.

Even worse, there will be new lore books.

Yeeeaaaaahh...not looking forward to collecting more ED lore books

ED4 had no rare lore, so I don't even go. That is probably a HUGE improvement. Jagex got that amazing map and were like Hello LOL-Demons and Lazer gates.

wow.

They Someone probably could have made an entire game on that map.

More importantly, it seems like this post was a vision of the future. I'm starting to think Jagex can't afford the death reduction update. I like to say I told you so, I almost saved them from disaster.

Clearly this update is a massive drain on the resources. That 1 dev presumably would have delivered at least 4 updates in this time. With more not to come. Jagex has also seemingly decided that a small number of players should fund this activity, since the rest of us are either paying $5 a month or bought premier last Christmas. A big bargain for sure.

They dumped some death data, but it was like people saved 4 gazzilion GP's from free death weekend. Not much for analysis. I'm guessing the other 165 pages of this report are forthcoming.

When death cost finally does arrive, it will mean almost nothing to me. The content that would kill me is torturous even with success, so I wasn't going to ever play it anyways.

I really can't figure out what the combat committee's malfunction is. How rude right? Well, they basically tossed everything they could think of at our screens and GREATLY IMPROVED the combat.

Yes, I made that statement. It is far superior to the recent version I was heavily ranting about.

But what is the plan? Shouldn't they be making these skills lvl 120 and figure out a way to reward the folks who really dig EOC without having the game suck for everyone else?

Like these astronaut trainees with uncountable action bars, satellite view bossing, and mouse with 12 hotkeys. Pianos have the foot pedals, my imagination extends those to EOC fans. Probably got their defensive abilities wired up there, making it literally more difficult to play this combat than to fight monsters IRL.

They are overworked and overpaid, when it comes to drops and GP. These dudes are the main suppliers of every skilling material in the game, which is comical. They also corner the market on rare weapons and armor. Of course they do, I'm not going to get a drop from content I don't even try. O_o

I think, besides 120's combat needs a system where folk can gather SOMETHING as a solo player. That something is then very useful in groups who are already engaged in some similar activity. Said player, having done their homework, is welcomed with open arms as their contribution is actually useful to others, and this player is not seen as a curse planted to destroy all their progress and rewards.

Related to that, can we at some point stop empowering trolls as the main focus of any multiplayer content? Like one dude sipping his beer shouldn't crash the whole system. IMO the game should be more beer friendly, since they have like 90 places to buy it in-game. If you are going to openly and blatantly encourage me to partake, then don't be getting mad when I do!

Word to the folk working on those graphics updates. On one hand you made something nice looking.

On the other hand, you pooped all over my screen and celebrated it. I have cats telling me 319,999,999 players get to customize their experience, but Roddy can only be dodging landmines.

No sir, I don't like it.

Here's the kicker. I'm like the only one actually watching the screen in those areas. Everyone else is AFK playing Pacman. But for some reason they require realistic graphics, which include the highly praised and comically oversized rocks which couldn't possibly have been placed in such a manner.

Personally, if I were involved in that situation I would provide evidence for the placement of the stones. In my town they are fighting the river constantly. It's a major project.

Who put those rocks there?

Due to poopular demand my chief strategist has broken down TOP SECRET documents related to the topic at hand.

1. Identify potential confusion and pain points in how the death system works.

We have no idea what the hell this is. If anyone can translate it would be much appreciated. Some kind of torture device obviously.

2. Encourage those who are afraid of dying to try PvM.

This is like encouraging a reindeer to drive a garbage truck.

3. Make top-ranking and PvM players feel less punished by deaths.

Of course! Nobody should want them to feel punished for anything ever. This update will provide them with a nice little pillow and some cookies!

4. Ensure that players understand how much they will pay for dying, so they can make informed decisions about combat encounters.

This is where the MTX team comes in. Informed decisions is their speciality.

5. Analyse the state of the RuneScape economy and offset any reduction of GP leaving the game that results from reducing death costs.

This means how much does a Seren Godbow cost? Checks out, herbs are 1 GP? Checks out. Otherwise this also means NERF SQUAD IN PROGRESS. The game is already much worse. I hate it.

6. Foster open and honest communication with the community around the subject of death costs.

BAHAHAHA. Luckily, I have stepped in to fill the void. Massive color coordinated communications with the entire community. Me, myself and chief strategist dude.

For some amazing reason we have now entered week 2 of Poopscape. I don't walk the paths anymore, someone needs to teach their horse manners.

I wish I could think of something positive they are working on. That would require them to: actually do it, and actually tell someone about it.

I am not a believer! There is no polite way to describe how they are currently portraying themselves.

IT AIN'T GOOD!

P.S. Frank's Free Deaths was 9 months ago. Obviously the data is severely outdated and needs a 2nd opinion.

SHELF IT. My proposal is a sequel: Frank's Free Deaths and Overpriced Cosmetics Event. This should buy us enough time to get our favorite dev some help.

As it stands now the entire purpose of death cost rework is to punish ME. All of them get cookies and pillows at MY EXPENSE.

Because my skillset is so far above the others, I don't die in this game. That is a fact.

I will admit at times, several conspiracies and natural disasters did in fact lead to my character's demise, but I was never responsible. My choices are impeccable.

Strongly related to this, my advisors and I feel that users are experiencing something similar to a business simulation game.

You know the type. Oh the people are unhappy so I shall assign 1 worker to dev blog. That will maintain itself for at least 3 months. Efficient AF.

Then the roller coaster breaks down, you are hiring additional workers for 10 cents an hour just to get things done. Not long after your coaster derails and you are in the news.

The news helicopters arrive to see that members of your staff got stuck under a bridge, so there is litter and un-mowed grass everywhere! That is all the eye can see.

This is what my team of experts are trying to avoid, but there is no cooperation. We can only send fair warnings well in advance. After that it's every person for themselves. Take what you can carry and seek shelter. That is precisely what we are doing.

I read the whole thing and honestly had like a dozen agree/disagree responses, but the headline I dont want to bury... roddy is truly, no snark, an interesting voice, and this was a fun read.

hey man remember when we had a website based manual, and a limit of one a day quest hints?

it almost sounds like you want a manual for the game to not be wiki'able and polluted by ochlocracy. heh.

edit/add: fixed typo and checked dates. beg pardon for the gravebumping? but it seems like this is coming back up.
I have quit rsof because moderator found comments about darklight bonus damage on demons "off topic" for wildy flash mobs full of demons
