I've been reading and re-reading what I could find on Wiki as well as talking with my good friends in game for the purpose of understanding combat abilities. My combat stats are good and the armor available to me is fair; however, even the best in game is useless to one in combat who does not understand how to use abilities skillfully. (I'm only talking of players against monsters; not players against other players.)
I presently have 5 written pages of notes I have taken down from all this effort to understand; and they have all become confusing. I think that is because I do not understand the different "categories" of abilities.
So far I've discovered several different categories (in each of the 3 combat styles) of abilities. There are those that hit multiple targets, those that stop a monster from moving, those that heal, those that do damage over time (DoT) and those that help players escape the stun-type abilities placed on them. In my way of thinking that is 5 categories in each of the 3 combat styles. Have I missed any? (I've not found where Wiki separates abilities into these categories. If anyone knows where this information might be please provide the URL.)
I am now in the process of creating a list of abilities that fit each of these categories (sorting them out between the 3 combat styles) kind of like the following:
A. BLEEDING ABILITIES:
Melee:
1.
2.
Ranged:
1.
2.
Magic:
1.
2.
B. MULTIPLE TARGET ABILITIES:
Melee:
1.
2.
Ranged:
1.
2.
Magic:
1.
2.
C. HEALING ABILITIES:
Melee:
1.
2.
Ranged:
1.
2.
Magic:
1.
2.
D. ABILITIES STOPPING MONSTER FROM MOVING:
Melee:
1.
2.
Ranged:
1.
2.
Magic:
1.
2.
E. ABILITIES HELPING PLAYER ESCAPE STUNS:
Melee:
1.
2.
Ranged:
1.
2.
Magic:
1.
2.
Not sure this is the best way to learn about abilities; just don't know enough to choose a different method. I would appreciate critiques, suggestions, information, whatever.
Thank you
