Problem with 2 up front these days is most are playing 5 in midfield so you just get outnumbered there and lose all possession.
I think leaving Terry and Cole out is a good choice tbh, we need new younger players to set the future for us. I just wish some other players such as Lampard were left out as well because let's be honest none of these players have been performing in an England shirt for the past 2 or 3 years.
Cole has been England's most consistent performer for a long time imo.
I think we can get away with playing two up front providing Rooney isn't lazy and actually drops deeper to at least mark a midfielder when we don't have possession, he drove me crazy at the Euro's when he was so lazy and not marking Pirlo
Atletico have proven it is possible to play with a 4 man midfield at a top level. I'd probably want us to line up with something like Wilshere Gerrard Lampard Sterling
Gerrard and Lampard sitting deeper with Sterling and Wilshere playing really narrow.
I really want us to play a system that gets the best out of our two best players at the present time, Sturridge and Rooney. I would suggest playing 3 at the back to accomodate the 5 midfield but I doubt we have the defence to adjust to that
