Pretty much this, Zaros promised them help with basically getting it so they can reproduce again, as it has been an issue with the dragonrider race for a long time. With it being their really only hope they got involved, then the Zammy stabbing Zaros with a staff stuff happened, they were forced to pick sides and such, Zaros was gone, they they were left on Gilenior(sp) with no hope of a cure, and no way to get home. Those that stayed aligned with Zaros were hunted down from what I gather (It talked about it at the beginning of quest)
