You can keep recharging volatile tools now for an extra 20% xp bonus, so you do want to buy them!

Let us using fishing as an example. So what you want to do is buy a volatile tool and keep reverting it until you turn it into a harpoon. After you do this, you just keep recharging that volatile harpoon using the points you get, which will yield more xp for the points you spend.
