One of my computers at college had a similar issue where the monitor was blank and wouldn't display anything even when the computer itself was switched on, the issue was deemed to be "CPU failure".
If your computer is switched on but isn't displaying anything on screen then the problem lies either with the computer itself or your cable/plug hasn't been inserted correctly.
Or maybe the monitor has failed?
