How do they know it was as bright as the universe combined? Maybe there is one even 1000 times brighter on the other side of the universe. How can those dumbasses know
That's the thing. We don't actually know anything, it's all theories and predictions.
Obviously they may have been one 1000 times brighter on the other side, however, since we cannot SEE it, we only have to assume that the one we did see was the brightest.
They want the news to sound fascinating so they aren't going to say "Lol, there was a gamma-burst but m8s, there may have been one 1000 times brighter on the other side of the universe, so why are you even reading this?!?!"
Since we can't see that far yet, we can't know for sure if one did occur or not, so would assume nothing occurred.
