He is a bit defective indeed, but his release is actually VERY stable compared to literally every single other boss in recent times. Yakamaru in particular was horrible on release due to so many different bugs that could fail a kill in no fault of others (and there's STILL a bug right now that can fail one!) Oh yeah I remember at Yakamaru that planks wouldn't spawn and if you dealt too much damage you'd skip a phase making him unkillable.
