I remember my friend when going for 5.4b always did the quick skills first, and I always used to say to myself 'yeah, but I've done 300 hours in woodcutting when he's done it in Slayer, so technically I'm on equal footing with him', and his justification was that Jagex will find ways to make the slow skills quicker, but it was unlikely that the fast skills would get that much faster in the long run. How I used to laugh at his 20m woodcutting/mining/fishing xp.

Not any more. It hurts to be wrong.
