Got to be dedicated to the female avatar for at least 365 days for the system to grant you with better luck point gains. This has to be uninterrupted time as well. So becoming a female for 6 months, then changing back to a male avatar will reset this reward and you'll have to "do the time" all over again should you choose to give yourself over to the female avatar model. This also applies once you've met the full 365 days, if you change after you've done your time, you will be reset and required to dedicate another year in order to be rewarded again. If you never change, grats on eternally better luck!

Legend says that the above only works if you're a male IRL, though. The system needs to be aware that you're sacrificing something for that chance of better luck. In this case, you're putting yourself up for insults and flame (omg you're pretending to be female you scum!) and the system loves that! .
