I do want 99/120 as fast as I can, but I won't do that with any expensive methods.
I'll simply augment my weapons and keep camping Dark Beasts, it may not be the fastest method but gets me to 120 eventually without costing much, if at all.

Yes. Its pretty much

Step 1: Destroy item(s)
Step 2: Acquire components from destroyed item(s)
Step 3: Combine components
Step 4: Get a Perk from combined components
Step 5: Add perk to equipment
Step 6: Use equipment to level it up
Step 7: Siphon experience from perky equipment to gain invention exp.

Alternatively if you're extremely rich and feel like bankstanding, you can repeat steps 1-5 for the fastest experience, but this is obviously going to be more costly since you need to destroy a lot more things, and attach perks to a lot more other things.

Step 7 can be done in different ways. You can either siphon experience from the perk and reset your equipments level back to level 1, essentially putting you back to step 6. Or you can consume the whole item and gain even more experience, but you'll be set back to step 1 instead of step 6.

For step 6, the higher tiered equipment you use, the faster your equipment gains experience. So using level 80 equipment will generate experience a lot faster than using level 50 equipment.
