Since you guys are talking about aquarium:

Do the fish in order:

Start using the prawn pennies/pounds when you start doing swordfish+tuna, it will be self sustaining the whole way provided you have purchased the perk that doubles the duration of pennies/pounds.

Oh thanks Josh

Can someone explain the whole penny/prawn thing? I didn't look at the design doc and honestly don't even know what the comp req is and what those things are
It's not the end that I fear with each breath, it's life that scares me to death

A golden egg takes on average 3 hours to get per fish regardless of the fish caught per hour. The prawn pennies and pounds reduces the average time to 2 hours (a reduction of 1 hour.)

A prawn penny lasts for 25 fish caught, and a pound lasts for 100 fish caught. There's a Tier 3 perk that doubles it to 50 and 200 respectively. Therefore, you are RECOMMENDED to save pennies and pounds until you get that perk (obtained after wrapping up on Monkfish.)

I.e. Rocktails are approx. 204 fish per hour. So the average chance of getting a golden egg from rocktail is 1/612. The pennies/pounds reduces that to 1/408.

If you follow the table that you don't use pennies/pounds until you begin fishing swordfish + tuna and have bought the perk, you'll never run out of pennies/pounds.

Anyway, here's the expected time (It's also a guide) :

~20 hours to complete trim req. 13 hours if you're absurdly lucky eliminating the worst fish only.

Edit:

A certain guy believes it's better to use pennies/pounds the entire way by starting with rocktails > cavefish (since they're self sustaining on pennies/pounds.) It's actually the same but the above allows you to rely on the RNG to get up to 1 hour quicker on average.
