I wish TV shows stopped using the "dead mother" or "dead father" argument for EVERY character they come up with.

"My name is X and my mother/father was murdered/is dead." Clichéd characters like that truly annoy me. I don't remember the last time I saw a character whose parents were happily married (this also includes divorced).

Also, this is especially noticeable on pretty much ALL the shows on The CW Network.

Example:
- The Tomorrow People
- The Flash
- Arrow
- Supernatural
- The Vampire Diaries
- The Originals
- The Secret Circle

I swear.

Maybe they couldn't find any older actors, so instead just wipe out the entire older generation from all their shows
No, I don't think this is the case considering it also happens in books.

E.g:
- Harry Potter
- Twilight

and I think The Hunger Games as well. And it makes me even angrier when these losses play a big part in the plot.
