I don't smoke or drink alcohol but I think it's ridiculous blocking those sites...

Will it block us searching Oasis because they made a song named 'cigarettes and alcohol'? If they block Oasis they'll also block a major fruit juice and surely it'll mean all supermarkets will be blocked too.

Does my mum have to opt in to do the shopping online? :O

It's actually their masterplan to secretly start censoring everything anti-government and implement more propaganda.
Whaaaaat:
blocks on "violent material", "extremist related content", "anorexia and eating disorder websites" and "suicide related websites", "alcohol" and "smoking"
So are they now gonna ban websites too that try to help people with an alcohol and smoking addiction, or an anorexia or obesitas problem?

Blatant censorship

The future of the Internet does not look good if this goes through.

It will start with UK and once other countries see what's going on, they might follow in his footsteps and soon before you know it, all countries will be censoring what we view, say, see, do and watch on the Internet. It will be chaos and will just get worse.

I'm sure they'll manipulate people into voting FOR this idea without them realising what really is going on.

It will just be a parliamentary vote though, no need for manipulation there. I do think there will be massive opposition though and possible riots. You don't introduce things like this when the majority of the country is already pissed off.
