It is from contracts actually! I used to do mage+melee combo for most of my nex trips then I saw how laid back range+mage was, and switched to that.

Cannon + titan is the way forward

There are only two tasks (Dark beasts and black demons) that are beneficial to cannon now anyway, so it's not like ends up as a huge expense. Weapons poisons are really great with cannons too.
