Even if you're currently paying this does affect you. I find that the majority of long term (say at least a decade) customers have no plans to stop their subscription, and at that point it becomes more beneficial to purchase the premier membership for all the extra benefits it includes. The price of premier is directly connected to the current price of the game (12 months at a 25% discount I believe) so if you're a 10 year old customer that wants the most out of this game, well, you have to pay more. Well to me RS is a hobby that I can spend a lot of time on, so even if I didn't have the grandfathered rate (apart from buying premier) the equivalent of about £7 a month would be reasonable.

Not many hobbies are that cheap. Heck a couple of magazines a week would cost more.
Remember Caz. Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I don't mind starting to pay/play again, assuming the company heads in the right direction.

as of now, looks like the treasure hunter profits, if reinvested at all, goes entirely to more treasure hunter.

one little problem: it is a significant cause of player base decline, but not helping with the issue incurred.

when people pay extra money for pixels, they presumably want the pixel to look nice, to be responsive, to be polished.

all these things rest on a sound game engine, which, per speculations above, will not receive any funding from treasure hunter's fruit.

when this happens, it's a cycle of:
more treasure hunter>
more baseline members get marginalized and quit>
more fixed cost for each existing member to bear>
higher prices.

let's see if the price goes higher than wow subscription one day; that'll be fun.

Afaik, WoW has never increased their price (although you have to pay for expansions). So if we assume they will continue to not raise their prices and we only compare RS' one month rate to their one month rate: RS will overtake WoW in 2027.

I use bonds anyway to fund membership, so I don't feel negatively affected at all. Money is easy to make on RS3, so maintaining that cost will not be any different than it was before.

Runescape is still a very cheap MMO compared to others on the market. In addition to that, I would naturally expect the price to raise regularly since inflation is a thing. At the end of the day, producing this game costs money and the cost to make it will go up every year weather or not we want it to.

Ultimately, if we wish to play this game, its needs to say profitable for Jagex. I don't feel there is much room to debate that.
