This Month

You'll notice that today's front-page news post is packed with great content that is due to come out this month.

In keeping with the Clans theme of this newsletter, here is some advance detail about what you can expect from our imminent Clan Camp update:

The Clan Camp

As announced last week, Tuesday 12 April will see the release of true in-game support for RuneScape’s many clans, and for those who aren’t yet part of a clan. The Clan Camp will be setting up just outside of Falador’s south wall, becoming a hub for all clan activity, be that setting up a clan, recruitment, arranging events or just for private and public meetings.

Your first port of call should be the clan scribe, who will help you to officially register your clan and personalise it with a clan motif, colours and motto. The colours and motif you pick will be reflected in your clan cloak and on your vexillum, a wieldable flagstaff that can be used as a tool to recruit other players for your clan.

Other features of the camp include the ability to set up public or private meetings (say, by clan rank), set up events and have clan votes. Then there’s Rated Clan Wars – with RuneScape’s clans becoming fully recognised by the rest of the community, it will only be natural to prove which is the best… To support all of these in-game tools, there’ll also be website features too, including a clan homepage, stats, hiscores and clan forums.

We're all genuinely excited to be releasing such a major upgrade that offers superb clan support to the RuneScape community.

Check out the full news post for more details about what you can expect in April! (And for an extra giggle, you might want to check out our alternative news post that went up this morning... remember what date it is!)

Thanks everyone - happy April!

Clan Update

The Clan Celebration Month is ending and it has been a great success with thousands of players taking part. Just a few of the highlights from the month include:

• Our 'Test your Skills' challenge, both for individual players and clans;
• a clan personality test;
• 'Help a Noob' and Quest Help events.

The 'Test your Skills' Challenge was simple: sign up during the bonus XP weekend and we would track the XP gained by players and clans. The leaderboards and full results were then posted in the 'Hall of Fame' thread. Over 8000 players and 100 clans took part in the challenge with a ranking system going from 'How I mine fish?' to 'God of all skills'.

The top skillers who took part in our skilling challenge are:

Telmomarques gaining 102,269,468 XP
Elias gaining 73,201,577 XP
Tezz gaining 62,292,496 XP

The top clans who took part in the skilling challenge are:

Pink Patrons of Pain gaining a collective total of 475,762,132 XP
Divination gaining 403,762,442 XP
Night Slayers gaining 390,007,483 XP

Full results can be found here: Celebration Hall of Fame .

The Clan Personality Test was created to help players find out what their perfect clan would be. There are a series of questions and answers to choose from - why not try it out to see what clans would suit you?

Many of our clans like helping out players and we gave them the perfect opportunity to do this through in-game 'Help a Noob' and Quest Help sessions . Some of the great things they did included handing out armour sets, general advice, quest help and even drop parties with generous prizes to help get started in RuneScape.

Of course, there is no need to wait for us to organise these kind of events in-game. If you or your clan want to help others who are just starting out, or who may not know what to do next, go out and find them! :D

Another feature of this celebration month involved highlighting a selection of clans to the RuneScape community . Each week we choose clans who represented different areas of the game and types of communities.

They ranged from questing clans like The Caped Carousers , to skilling clans like the W22 Farming Guild , to combat clans like The Last Brotherhood .

There are so many different types of clans out there that there will be one for everyone, whether you are a casual gamer who likes chatting, a hardcore skiller who is always looking to improve, or an Activities specialist. You could either post in the 'Looking for a Clan' forum or browse the existing forum threads to search for your perfect clan.

Good luck!

Clan Spotlight

Each month we will be using this section to showcase original writing from the clan community.

This month's Spotlight is shining on a piece from Will Miss It , who is sharing some thoughts about how to choose the clan that is right for you .

How do I choose a clan?

by Will Miss It

When the clan chat system was released in August 2007, I remember how big this actually was. I had a bunch of friends telling me to join their clan chat all the time. Haha, I think almost every player had their own clan at that time! I remember I didn't join or make my own clan at all. I actually didn't know what it was!

Well, in 2009 I heard about my perfect clan chat. For me, it was a chatting cc specially made for a supported Jagex language.

I liked it there, mainly because of the players in the clan, how we had the same opinions and interests.

But how are we really supposed to choose our clan? There's loads of clan chats in the game... Pk-clans, activity-clans, chatting clans, high-level clans and even fanclub-clans!

Yes, the choices are many, and you don't have to choose an existing one. You could be without a clan, or simply just make your own!

Making your own clan is the easiest way to find the perfect clan for you. You decide on the theme, the members, the rules! However, joining an already existing clan can be so much easier...

A good tip to start with is figuring out what you want to do. Spying on penguins? Playing Soul Wars? Meeting new friends? Questing?

When you know this, the forums would be a great tool to help you find the perfect clan. Or maybe your friends have a clan that matches your interests?

It will probably take a few days to see if the clan is for you. How are the other members of the clan? The ranks?

The choice is yours! Good luck.

:) :) :) :) :)

If you would like to submit a piece to be considered for the Clan Spotlight section, please feel free to email it to us at [email protected] . We can't promise to use every submission but we do read all of them. We look forward to receiving your contributions!

Player Submissions

Every month, we invite players to submit their own original works for inclusion in the newsletter.

Departing temporarily from this newsletter's clan theme, I hope you enjoy this poem about the rebirth of a fallen warrior.

Resurrection at the 'Bridge

by Gl im Buddha

Hollow soldier; forsaken man—
stay thy blade, this night.
Unfurl an angel's wings;
take to the sky in flight.

Leave behind this haunted land,
which demons and dragons plague.
Soar 'til an eternity's memories,
are distant, surreal, and vague.

Carry not your armour and gold,
nor your blade, forged in blood.
Spoils to the dying victor,
'til he is facedown in crimson mud.

Colours blur as gravity returns,
bringing your feet to solid ground.
Knowing eyes stare back at yours,
as you allow them to gaze around.

Then, you are off, once again,
back to the Northern Wastes;
the Wilderness, as it is known,
where many a man meets his fate.

Honour, glory, riches, and fame;
these are for what you will die.
But you possess the gods' favour,
so none will be your final sigh.

Hollow soldier; forsaken man—
unsheathe thy scarlet blade.
Take to the field, with bloodlust roar!
Until, once more, you begin to fade.

If you would like to submit a piece of original writing to be considered for the newsletter, please feel free to email it to us at [email protected] . We can't promise to use every submission but we do read all of them. We look forward to receiving your contributions!

Jagex Social Networking

If you are a regular user of social sites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube or DeviantArt, then come and join us on those sites! Not only do we post the hottest RuneScape news there, but we also offer exclusive preview pictures of upcoming updates, run entertaining quizzes and competitions , carry out live Q&A sessions , and much more.

The month of March saw the creation of Jagex's very first official Facebook clan , the Pink Patrons of Pain , led by the inimitable Mod Poppy .

Although they have been in existence for just a few weeks, the PPoP have already become a dominant force in the clan world (as evidenced by their performance in the recent Skilling Weekend XP Competition).

There has even been an internal power struggle, as Mod French challenged Mod Scorpion for the position of PPoP General:

Keep watching our Facebook page for all the latest updates about the PPoP clan, and remember to check out the PPoP thread here on the official RS forums!

In non-clan news, we also recently hosted a live Q&A with T S Church, whose new RuneScape novel 'Return to Canifis' is on sale now . If you check out our Facebook page from March 26, you will be able to see photographs from the session (and a bonus picture of Mod Paul M's cat - it was already on the camera we were using and we decided it would be a fun thing to share!)

Forum Spotlight

In this new section, we will be showcasing a different noteworthy forum thread each month.

This month's featured thread is by Mod Paul M . I'm sure Paul needs no introduction, but for those of you who don't know him, he is Jagex's Official Monkey Trainer . [He's actually one of the top men here in Community Management but the monkey thing sounded more exciting!]

Anyway, as you are probably aware, we recently relaunched the Jagex Store. Paul M has started the following thread, where we would really appreciate any feedback about the Store.

Quick find code: 254-255-75-62602618
Location: Home > RuneScape Forums > Community Home > Jagex Store - let's chat =)

Perhaps you've bought from the Store already, perhaps you're still thinking about it, or perhaps you've decided there is nothing there that interests you - in all cases, we would love to hear your thoughts. It will all help us to make the Store as good as it can be.

Tune in next month when we will be illuminating another thread with the Forum Spotlight.

Quiz Quest

Each month, the Quiz Quest tests your knowledge about the RuneScape world. There are prizes for five winning entries and we hope that you all enjoy hunting for the answer.

Thank you to all of you who entered the March Quiz Quest competition!

The correct answer to last month's Quiz Quest was Glacialis . Well done to those of you who got it right!

(A note on the answer: Some of you entered 'Born To Do This' which is the main Dungeoneering theme that plays when you arrive at Daemonheim - but we were specifically looking for the name Glacialis since this is the name are the music tracks that play while you're inside the dungeons on the Frozen floors. There is actually a suite of ten tracks, named Glacialis I-X (one to ten in Roman numerals). We accepted Glacialis alone, or any combinations of Glacialis and numbers.)

This month, congratulations go to *drum roll*... Jamandy52 , whose entry was the first one to be selected. We are delighted to give her three months' complimentary membership to RuneScape and a RuneScape mouse mat signed by Mark Gerhard and a selection of other J Mods.

The following four players are the runners up, each winning one month of RuneScape membership:

  • CakeHero1

  • Invictus Vox

  • Calaeria

  • Todor555

We choose the winners at random, so if you didn't win this time, try again!

This month's Quiz Quest:

Which clan won the Combat division of the 2010 Jagex Clan Cup?

Once you have the answer, post it on the April Quiz Quest thread or send it to us by email at [email protected] - and if you could include the words 'quiz quest' in your subject header it will really help us to spot your email! If you are under 13, please ask a parent or guardian to send your entry in on your behalf, from their contact email address.

Please remember to let us know your RuneScape account name with your answer, if you submit by email - that way we will know who should be rewarded for their fact-finding power!

The competition will close promptly at 10:00 UK time on Friday 15th April 2011 - so get your answer in as soon as you can.

Winner
The winner will receive a complimentary 3 months' membership to RuneScape and a RuneScape mouse mat signed by Mark Gerhard and a selection of other J-Mods.

Runners-up
The four runners-up will receive one month's RuneScape membership.

All winners will have their names posted in the next edition of the Gielinor Globe!

So, good luck finding out the answer!
