Given this is such a hot topic for d-scimmy users, please give all of this additional feedback some weight whilst making your final redesign decisions.
Good feedback from others (which agrees with my preference
) :
- Smooth cutting edge of D
- No point on the cutting edge near the hilt (shown on B)
- No kerfs on the cutting edge (shown on A)
- Leather-wrapped hilt (unlike the new "original" )
- Hilt tip of C (and there's hint of that on the "original" too)
- Hilt of C (if you can fix the blade/hilt offset)
A winning design would have the blade of D with the hilt of C (lined up), and one extra point on the back of the blade near the hilt, like on B.

Nice detailed analysis of each scimitar design, Beamcharger.
I tend to agree with your points, and only have a bit to add regarding my view of each.
A - A classic scimitar, with a few “battle nicks” to give it some visual interest. I voted for this one as it is a classic scimitar that looks “battle worn”.
B - Appears to be “too stylized” such as the weapons in the mmo’s that Beamcharger mentioned. I won’t mention all the “copycat” mmo’s but...wow, I’m sure we know who they are.
C – The blade looks like “pinchers” not so much as a sword. Resembles partially open vice grips rather than a weapon. Hmmm…maybe we are meant to “pinch” our opponents rather than stab them.
D – A classic scimitar with a wrapped handle and a bit of a curve. It seems that A and D are basically the same with A having the “battle nicks” while D does not. For this reason, I prefer A over D since it looks like we “intrepid adventurers” have used it quite a bit.
Original – The “teeth” of the blade resemble those found on a sawblade, just larger and slightly spaced out on the scimitar. And “Ouch!”...I bet that bare metal handle gives us quite a jarring when we hit our enemies. I much prefer the wrapped handles of the proposed new scimitars.
