I am a member of a friendly skilling clan. We like to host events (probably 2 a week at least) and in general, just have a good time. One of my longest friends in Runescape referred me to the clan which is why i joined. It's nice to have pre-existing friends anywhere you go.

Nope.
Have never really seen a need to join an "official" clan. Friends and I just team up to kill bosses in one of our clan chats - and when boss hunting using the forums with other players - just use the specified clan chat.
I love the idea of clans (skilling and pvp) - just never seen any

@Sacornus - wow, I'll get a move on! That's a rather large sacrifice.
Here we go:
11. Are you a member of a clan? If so, how did you join it? If not, why not?

This isn't grocery store chocolate I'm talking about- It's Russian chocolate! (The Euro store also has a huge selection of perogies!)
I was once part of a adult clan that had it's own website. I never got hacked or scammed- but even with all of the members being adults, we eventually led to leadership abuse and drama. Slowly the leader alienated many members leaving our clan empty. I was one of the last to leave.
Eventually the leaders moved on to another MMO entirely.
Now I am part of a clan- a very basic one. It's simply a clan chat for adults/ mature people to talk in. No requirements for games or events, it's just there for when we want to chat.
Honestly, for me, too many clans either have lots and lots of drama or too many event requirements for me to stay in.
Sometimes I try to join minigame clans for the sake of getting decent teams together, but due to timezone issues I find it hard.
For the most part I avoid clans. I have yet to see one without problems. I suppose it comes with any gathering of people you'll have issues. But seriously, I have to deal with drama at work (I have to act as a social worker once in a while) and don't want to deal with that when I am supposed to be relaxing.

Yes. I run one.
Early on playing, I met someone who introduced me to someone else, then I was invited to join a clan. I had a nice time in the clan, though I noticed a few problems with it, I had friends there and times were good.
The owner went through personal difficulty, so I started a clan. But most times still stayed in the original one. When the owner left, another clan member started a clan and asked me to help. Since I didn't really want to RUN a clan, I aided him.
Some people from the old clan came, and advertising got us some new members. However the clan was split between 2 distinct gameplay styles.
Drama ensued, and that clan died, and the clan I run was revived.
It is a small clan, we have skillers and pkers in it. Occasionally we do events, or a few people get together spur of the moment. What binds us is not what we do, but an atmosphere of mutual respect. People in the clan are happy with it, people who aren't happy with it don't stick around :)
Hope that answered all you wanted to know about my clan experience :P
