I will start by saying I am a huge free trade advocate. I have both lost and gained money in trades before the trade limit. I was never scammed but once, and I learned to always check the trade screen.
Before the trade limit there was more of a connection with others. Right now it's just put stuff in the GE and wait for it to sell. No negotiation, no face-to-face trading, and many items can no longer be bought and sold because of price floors and ceilings. Raw bird meat, summoning pouches, and many rare items come to mind. The GE, and hence the prices people pay for items, is also easily manipulated. Under the old system that was impossible.
Also, the chaos that happens with a new item being introduced... Jagex always sets a GE price too low or high and there is a massive shortage of the item either due to too many people selling at a high price or too many people buying at a low price and the item takes a few months to even stabilise. Free trade will instantly allow people to sell at prices the market determines.
I miss drop parties, before they were advertised to hell and back by spamming bankers.
I miss the excitement of trading at Falador Garden, World 2. This was before the GE but you could still buy and sell almost anything.
I also miss the law running at world 66, where law runecrafters could make massive amounts of EXP (but no money) and rune essence runners could make massive amounts of money (but no exp), a great system I loved being a part of as both a runner and later a crafter. Nature running was even more profitable.
I also miss the world 132 fletching guild at Yannile. It got me 99 fletching with a small profit. People would fletch yew and magic longbows and then trade to others for yew/magic logs and bowstrings, maybe plus a little extra cash for the fletcher, like 50k.
I miss being able to train skills such as herblore and *mithing for a profit, or at least break even. Yes, there was a day when you could do that.
