So, to the best of my knowledge, free trade was removed to protect players from the risks as well as the "benefits" of RWT and other forms of cheating.
One of the main things I liked about free trade was it give the player a sense of economy. Sure, it's all simulated in the form of a game, but the knowledge learned from it was entirely real.
People can cheat and be ripped off in the real world, and I believe free trade helps prepare young minds for it when they're older.
Same goes for the old wilderness. It teaches the player that people will try to take advantage of them if they're careless with who they trust.
A simulated world can produce real values.
