This post's purpose is to provide a brief summary of the problem of Hacking.
Many players, their intent to detur voters from supporting this referendum, easily persuade new players to vote no on the referendum with deceitful scare-tactics. One such threat is that the average player is at risk of losing his account.
The truth is, is that with very little thought process, this lie is easily turned over. There are (with very few exceptions) only three ways your account can be hacked.
(A) The player is tricked by another seemingly helpful or friendly player into sharing his or her ********.
(B) The player is tricked by Jagex imitators into revealing his or her ********.
(C) The player is lured onto sites which promise massive **** revenues for the player, free membership, or other similar fables, but in truth possess only the intent to control the player's account.
Of the three, the first two are both warned against excessively to a point of incredulity on most players' parts by Jagex, and require only common sense to avoid. Further, this referendum should have no effect on their frequency of occurence whatsoever.
The last form of hacking may gain some of its former strength by this referendum if it is carried to completion. However, the only players who stand to lose from this form of being hacked are precisely the ones who we all dislike in the first place: Cheaters. Not only do these sites trick these players into losing their accounts, these sites often also contain harmful viruses which can steal much more important information.
And, while it is impossible to entirely prevent cheating with Free-Trade, It is also impossible to entirely prevent cheating without Free Trade, and any increase of cheating will be met by Jagex, which has increased its manpower sufficiently to compensate for any problems observed before 07'.
