I've been playing RS for about 6 years now, and I think that the old Runescape was better. It might just be because it's older and people like things how they were, usually, but I do think something's missing now. It's like they put in all of these precautions to make sure that nobody gets hurt. I used to get scammed. But then you learn how to avoid being scammed, and you get this sense of accomplishment, like you've matured and have gained some experience that the game itself doesn't actually give out. You just learn. In real life, sure, maybe it would be better if we had precautions like this to protect people, but this is a game, and games are much more fun if there is more risk and more freedom.
I miss just being able to go to world 2 and going around Falador, Varrock and Camelot and seeing what people were selling. Merchanting was also a fair business back then. This new "merchanting" is bogus. It isn't merchanting, it is a scam. The leaders of the "merch clans" buy all they can of an item, then tell their clan to buy it out. The price goes up, they sell it for max while their clan is still trying to get ahold of the item, then after they sell and make a huge profit, they tell the clan to dump. Then a lucky few might get some profit, but the rest will fail to sell the item for even minimum price for possibly weeks. And it creates turbulent prices that are artificial. Old merchanting was based on what the other person was willing to pay and solely on that. These new stipulations make it so there isn't much flexibility and you're almost always a victim of the merch clans. Not to mention they spam up the GE and censor their chats. I hate it more than anything I've ever come across in my time of playing.
So I got bored of this new "Safescape" and quit for a while. I really did want to play again, but it wasn't as fun. Then I was told about this Referendum. I already plan on renewing membership if it goes through, which seems likely. Thanks Jagex for waking up
