I would've shown you a graph, Fred, a graph of the traffic on the RS homepage since 06. You see a DRASTICAL curve, going down.. So what you're saying holds no truth, there still are some players who play, but nothing compared to earlier. (Can't give out websites here..)
If you think about the earlier times, what was the most attractive thing in RS? What was the one thing that kept many players from getting bored of the game? It was the Wild.
Look back at all the different updates Jagex has brought since the removal of the wilderness. Many of those updates are beneficial for the lower lvls players in terms of training their skills faster to a higher lvl, and with more gain. In the earlier days we didn't have that sort of things to keep us going. A 99 cape was like "woah", and now it's one of the most common sights.
Jagex had to keep the lower lvl players encouraged to play, there wasn't any wildy there to keep them playing anymore, and therefore they had to bring the updates that made it easier to gain loads of lvls quicker.
And fyi, concerning the first vote.. It is not hard to create a program that votes for you.. You could even make it pick a random username of the HS and vote. Vote SEVERAL TIMES. Now you can only vote with one acc, this is what makes the difference you don't seem to be understanding.

omg thats the billionth time you people tell me i wasnt from before 2007 as i dotn want wildy change the god dam record im older than you trust me i been playing since before party hats and the rariest item in the game is a disc or returning not a bleeding party hat for everyone that thinks phats are so rare you got them in crackers you could pull as many crackers as you wanted that day and some people pulled hundreds .

disk of returning where only given to people who wanted to vist people in jail who had broke rules and not many of them where given out and the jail did not last that long which makes them officaly far rare than any phat.
and if you want something thats super rare how about a guy that wants wildy that has an argument other than you didnt play before 2007 if you dont want it?

@I am unable what you say is is true about you had seen like 300k players online, I remebered that asswell but the thing you said about worlds were filled to 800-1k players. There came about 60 new worlds during the years and you must not forgot that 60 new worlds is pretty much. If you spread these players from these 60 new worlds over the 120 worlds wich already excisted you got alot more players though. But basicly I do agree with you.

NOTE:I agree with the vote thing making you log in. I'm just mad because they were too dumb to make it that way the FIRST time. and now people are too lazy to come back and vote again. no *ne wants to vote again and again.
and most people in rs have more than one account which count for the majority of players so hence if each rs player has an average of 3 accs. then if they don't vote for all 3 accs. then the vote will lose because the majority didn't vote. because they are ghost players and if you can only vote for 1 acc then those accs. won't have any vote and the poll will lose so. you're not just making people vote twice you're making them vote six times.
Great we got way over 1 million in one day which woulden't be enough votes for jagex to change it. and then they reset the counter to zero. and expect everyone to VOTE AGAIN. what's the point? we gonna have to vote 3 times probably after that. just change it back.
this makes no sense. I wish jagex had someone in charge who knew what was going on.
this guy makes one of the biggest vote topics ever and makes a cruddy little messed up vote system the first time like he expected totally different results then when we get everyone to vote he decides "oh, this is apparently a bigger topic than I could even ponder to think about. I've remade the voting system to include yes and no and maybe" just for all you people who can't read "vote yes" and now people have to actually log in to vote which I should have done the first time but I dont' know what I'm doing; so give me a break. quotes JAGEX CEO.

Jig Xmas Elf what was the most arratvie thing about runescape honestly to me it was
trying ot be the first ever to have a 99 mining cape in classic
but hey back then 99s took a while to get and mining for years and im talking years did not have anyone at 99
then it slowly got people and it still only had 10k over 99 in the end of classic
so in ruenscape 2 they decided to nerf it and made rune pick axes which where later upgrade to dragon
they also made iron ore you could one click
but that wasnt fast enought experience for people so they made granite and ntroduced coal trucks which still wasnt fast enought
so they made concentrated gold rocks and now everyone has a mining cape.
oh wait I was meant to say the wildy and free trade wasnt I even thought wildy was boring as no oen was n it back then and free trade didnt mean much back then as everyone was poor.

I honestly don't see where the talk about rares comes into the picture, but oh well.. :P
EDIT: O, if you think doing mining for a whole day/month/year is fun, then go try RC'ing, you'll love it.
I can understand that some people find skills fun, but grinding mining was not one of my favourites.. And never will be, no matter how much Jagex makes it easier.
So tell me, do you get a adrenaline rush of mining, sir?
