Yes it was, and the simplicity of combat let me enjoy it. I have no, never had, never will have, desire for the "cool things" I "can do". It's much more fun in your opinion, in my opinion EOC is a terrible thing. I didn't want a bunch more things to do during combat.
July 2004 is when I started. If I wanted to play a game that was like World of Warcraft, I would have made the switch a long time ago. I didn't want it then, and I don't want WoW now.
I did like runescape, but given enough time, and you (Jagex) will ruin all aspects of the game.
1st - you installed real world trading, and changed the rules to allow it done by you. Call it anything you want, but people with too much money on the outside world, can now buy spins, and improve their ingame play.
2nd - slowly you've ruined skills. Need proof? It took me 8 years to get from level 1 runecrafting, to level 92. It took me 14 days to go from level 92 Runespaning to level 99. Thank you for ruining the skill.
3rd - do you remember what you said, when you revamped the general stores and specialty stores? You said, you were pricing the specialty store's items so people could not make money from them - and we would have to rely on our skills. So I relied on my runecrafting, so you ruined the skill, letting everyone easily advance to deaths and blood runes, and let the free market crash in the rune business. Thank you very much.
4th - EOC.

" For a lot of people combat was just clicking a monster and you’d sit back and wait for it to die. You might drink a potion; you might eat some food and then in the really high levels of combat you find that you’re manipulating between loads of different interfaces and you actually spend more time playing around with different interfaces than you actually do in combat. The new combat system really gives you loads more cool things that you can do. It looks great, it sounds great and it’s much more fun and engaging
