I remember reading somewhere (months ago, and in response to players whom desired that the old and new combat systems should remain online together via world selection, to allow the option to the ignored player base) that Jagex cannot host both the old system and new systems at the same time, that Jagex had to completely overhaul the game that they had been building off of the past decade - as if past saves or files of RuneScape hadn't been backed up or stored elsewhere.
That is a straight-up lie, Jagex.
Jagex maintained both the old servers and the Combat Beta servers at the same exact time. There was the option to play the then-current-and-now-old combat system, and the option to play the then-beta-and-now-current system. Keep in mind that the Combat Beta testers' online-count never surpassed anything even remotely close to 10% of the RuneScape players' online-count - and yet Jagex's biased polls seem to imply otherwise (25% of Beta testers enjoying both the old and new systems, if I remember correctly; that was the only option that even hinted at players liking Jagex's EoC revision, all the others were opinions like "I do not like the EoC at all," and "I'm not sure if I like the EoC yet," etc).
A vast majority of players, particularly veterans and loyal subscribing members, dislike the EoC. After going through the news updates and mindset that Jagex had, most players gave up on attempting to appeal or riot against the EoC, because they knew Jagex was not listening.
Jagex's ego overpowered players' concerns. There was no chance that Jagex would admit their EoC updates were going to be a mistake, at least not until after the damage had been done and almost all veteran and paying players left the game.
Those players are still out there, either playing RuneScape Private Servers, or having moved on to bigger, better things where their opinions and legacy can be appreciated.
Jagex, if RuneScape is expected to prosper once more, then kill the ego and listen to us.
