I haven't been on RuneScape in about 2 years now, so forgive me if this issue has already been taken into account. But this question has been nagging at me for some time now...
How effective do you consider "bot nukes" to be?
I understand that it is wrong to use automated systems in order to gain wealth, stats, and prestige, but it looks like bot nukes may not be the best solution. For years, the thousands of bots on RS have been funneling large amounts of resources into the Grand Exchange. Banning such a huge amount of these accounts so suddenly causes the supply of an item to drastically decrease, while the demand stays more or less the same. This in turn causes a drastic economic spike evident in almost ALL majorly traded items on the GE. The evidence is still there, as you can go to the Grand Exchange section of this website, look at a common resource, and be able to pinpoint exactly when a bot nuke happened.
Many players have now realized the potential of exploiting this economic spike. (stockpiling items before the nuke and selling at the peak of pricing). This, in essence, is an artificial altering of the market by Jagex, be it unintentional or not, and a great source of wealth for those willing to exploit it.
Also is the fact that these bot nukes prove to be only a temporary solution to a long-term problem, as new bots are already noted the day after a nuke by legitimate RuneScape players. My question is: Does Jagex believe this to be the most efficient way of solving the problem of botting? Perhaps a more gradual, less economy-altering method would prove to be more effective? Or better yet, should the focus shift on banning bot accounts before they are even given a chance to log on and begin operating?
Thanks for reading and I hope for a reply!
