I was immensely excited when I saw this post. Then I realised it had to be a video.
No, videos are not difficult to create. Videos are difficult to create WELL. Similarly, writing is not difficult; writing cohesively and with a good representation of vocabulary is, for the majority of the population.
Furthermore, not all of us make YouTube videos. This post is obviously aimed toward people with great artistic or videographic talent (something I do not possess). While I am creative, and can think of hundreds of ways to easily win this competition through animation, speech-writing, and cinematography, I have neither the funds nor time.
It's obvious most video producers will do a video similar to the example video--that will not get you a win, I can guarantee that now. The winners will be the people that incorporated everything from Machinima techniques, to animation, to proper script writing. While lifetime membership sounds awesome, RuneScape probably won't last more than five years, and isn't really worth the time a lot of people will put into it.
To be fair, I would love to write an essay on my favourite experiences and some worthy additions to the game. I am surprised and annoyed that Jagex has not allowed that; it takes just as long as a movie, in some instances. It allows for better explanation, and it allows you to make a word limit (say, 100 words, which is easily read in 45 seconds by whoever is judging the submissions).
Lastly, I will end by saying how no one has a chance. The top three videos will just simply be awesome. They'll probably be made by someone with awesome FCP and flash skills, among other things. I regret I don't have these skills, which is why I believe I should be allowed to give my representation in my own, separate, manner. Essentially, only visually appealing (and perhaps comedic) videos will even be considered. This competition obviously only caters to a certain crowd, and I disapprove of the limitations placed on the submissions.
