The problem may not be with you mic or sound card, at all.
It may be a playback/recording problem. You can check this by going into your control panel, and go into "Sound". Check to see if the mic is registering there, and if not, make sure it is set as your default audio device. If that is all set up, then go into your "Audio Mixer" (which should be in your task-bar) and make sure the mic, and the playback are both unmuted, and turned up to the proper volume.
If both of these two things fail, it may be a problem with the connection port your using on the computer. Try making sure its both the right port, and that it is functional.
