Hierarchy!

At the top we have the Captain. After this, our Quartermaster. After him, the First Lieutenant, then First Mate, both relatively equal on the scale. Then the Master Gunner and Boatswain, again, equal, but they're also A.B.S.'s, just with specific roles. Then we have The Carpenter/Surgeon (Same guy, actually same tools in fact) and our Chef (both are still technically A.B.S.'s), both slightly higher than our Able Bodied Sailors, or as the captain will refer to them as, "Ship Mates". Ship Mates are seen as the general crew, middle class almost. Then we have the Deck Hands. Now, the highest of the lowest of tiers, are the Cabin Boys. Then the Powder Monkeys, and finally, the Swabs.

Roles and Their Purposes

Captain! This role isn't acquirable at the time, but the captain will be in charge of the crew, mostly. Much like a dictatorship, his word will be final and executive. Before judgement, I must point out that this will definitely not be abused. It is primarily for Roleplay purposes to enforce him as the leader. The crew will actually maintain much of their decisions amongst themselves, where as the Captain's primary function is to lead the crew to battle, and to maintain the foreign relations.

QuarterMaster! This role is elected by the crew without the Captain's regulation. To be elected as QuarterMaster, you must first be nominated by one or more members of the crew. Then, after all nominees are accounted, a vote will be held (Most likely in roleplay) to determine who the standing QuarterMaster is. QuarterMaster will be in charge of the crew, and for this reason, be his duty to represent their interests to the captain. Above all, he protects the Seamen from each other by maintaining order, settling quarrels, and regulating rations.

First Lieutenant! This role is appointed by the Captain. the First Lieutenant, in times of sail, is seen as under the QuarterMaster, but still with authoritative word. He's in charge of leading raids and helping the Captain with foreign ordeals.

First Mate! This role is applicable to anyone. He's seen as the Captain's right hand man (Or woman). They will either be in charge of the wheel, or monitoring the deck. This role has little authoritative say itself, but the First Mate's orders are treated as if came from the Captain, because in most cases, they will be.

Master Gunner! He's responsible for the boat's firearms. Maintaining and in charge of the cannons below deck. They will be seen as the supervisor below deck in absence of a higher ranking member of the ship.

Boatswain! He supervises the maintenance of the vessel and supplies. He's responsible for checking the ship and its sails each morning, and reporting their condition to the Captain. He will also be in charge of all deck activities, including dropping the anchor and handling the sails.

Carpenter/Surgeon! This member of the ship will be in charge of repairing and the maintenance of the wooden hull, masts and yards. He works under the direction of the Captain and the Boatswain. The Carpenters duties were to check the hull regularly, placing oakum between seems of planks and wooden plugs on leaks to keep the vessel tight. The Carpenter will also serve as the Surgeon and perform operations and amputations with the same wood working tools.

Chef! This is an easy one. When it's time for grub, the Chef is the one who dishes it out. There's not much more to it. The chef won't be expected to work the deck, and will most likely be under the deck or participating in roleplay above deck.

A.B.S. Able Bodied Sailors. also known as Ship Mates. They're the backbone of the ship. They'll need to know the rigging and the sails, and most importantly how to read the mood of their commander. At this rank is where most of the odd jobs will be appointed. Rum theft missions, assassinations, and all sorts of ill things will be asked of these ladies and men. If you have a particular skill you want shown through in your character, jobs and missions will be appointed based on these. Each member (we hope) will bring something new to the roleplay, and help enhance the experience, and make it equally fun for all.

Deck Hands! These men are seen as recruits. They'll be just that. Mainly used for cleaning and normal tasks, this role is usually not a permanent one. In this position, they're seen as "The rookie", and are put through forms of indictment and (depending on the A.B.S.'s) even hazing. After gaining acceptance by the crew, they're usually quickly promoted to A.B.S., or in a rare case, demoted.

Cabin Boys! If any of you plan on making a child character (Which we don't really expect) the role of Cabin Boy is for you. You'll be used as a servant as you learn the ropes to become a Ship Mate. Their stance in the Hierarchy is equal to a Deck Hand.

Powder Monkeys! My personal favorite, this role is usually made up of Cabin Boys or Deck Hands, they're used for holding weapons and gun powder for cannons and crew. They'll run supplies from below deck to the crew in times of battle.

Swabs! Or if you prefer, Swabbies. They're the lowest, usually captured sailors or unwanted personnel, their only job is to mop the deck. You'll either see them on deck with a mop or downstairs in the cell.

REQUIREMENTS!

I'm sorry to say this, but aye, there are a few requirements.

1. You'll need to have somewhat decent typing skills in order to successfully portray your pirate slang.

2. The boat we plan to Roleplay on is located off of Pirate's Cove. This area is only accessible after starting the quest "Lunar Diplomacy". Finishing the quest is unnecessary. If you require assistance in getting the stats, contact either me or a Moderator, and we can work with you to get the stats and quests required. (Lunar Diplomacy requires 61 Crafting, 40 Defense, 49 Firemaking, 60 Mining, 5 Herblore, 14 Runecrafting, 65 Magic, and 55 Woodcutting. It also requires the completion of "The Lost City", "The Fremennik Trials", "Rune Mysteries", and "Shilo Village".)

3. Some basic Knowledge of Roleplay is always a good thing to have, and we hope you do.

4. Last but not least, some form of pirate clothing. It's easy to acquire, you can simply change your clothes in the Varrock clothing store, or if you want, purchase either in game clothing or from Solomon's Store with RuneCoins (Easily acquired through surveys)

WHAT TO EXPECT

You should expect to have a good time. We're pirates, you applied to be one, have fun with it. There will be some disputes, we are technically not good. On deck brawls are allowed, we even highly recommend calling people out to duel or box, these kind of things are great. Hostile attitudes on ship are welcome, but the QuarterMaster is in fact highly related to the ship's mood. If he's happy, you're happy. If he wants some blood, you'll give it to him. Expect punishment if you plan to be disruptive. No role is permanent. Quartermasters are elected, and so they can be voted down. (I tried to hide this tidbit, to see who actually reads these.)

We're pirates. Swearing is allowed. Threats are common. And fights are eminent. Keep these thing in mind and I think you'll do just fine aboard the Red Dawn.

"
Oh, poor old man your horse will die
And we say so, and we know so
Oh, poor old man your horse will die
Oh, poor old man
We'll hoist him up to the main yardarm
We'll hoist him up to the main yardarm
Say, I old man your horse will die
Say, I old man your horse will die
We'll drop him down to the depths of the sea
We'll drop him down to the bottom of the sea
We'll sing him down with a long, long roll
Where the sharks'll have his body
and the devil have have his soul
"
