War on the Horizon

In a stunning move the Republic of Draynor has seized the port town of Sarim in the name of their revolution. To find out more we spoke to their leader for an interview in the Port Sarim Jail, a temporary command center for the occupation.

Q: Let me start by congratulating you in seizing Port Sarim is there anything that you particularly attribute to this early victory?

A: We won and continue to win only with the support of man’s innate desire to be free.This is not a victory for myself or even for the Peasant Republic. This is a victory for all those who wish to one day be free of the clutches of monarchy.

Q: I take it then that you at least press your advantage against Rimmington and Galewood, Lord Valengale’s main power base?

A:That is quite the assumption. I will tell you that the council of syndicates has only expressed an interest in the area of Port Sarim and the surrounded countryside and will not convene again to discuss this matter until the area has been consolidated.

Q: Of course. On a slightly different topic we have recently spoken with the Republic of Varrock and been informed that her Serene Excellency has no interest in supporting your cause and has formed deals with supporters of the Vekonic monarchy, do you have any comment on these issues?

A: Why would the queendom of Varrock support our cause? And no I did not speak incorrectly. Make no mistake Varrock is not a republic. And it is an insult to every citizen here when Varrock continues to waltz around donning that title, degrading everything we have worked so hard for. Anyway about their dealings with Kandarin. We have made similar deals with both Varrock and Kandarin so I for one am not concerned. "The greatest endeavors are achieved because of their selfless intent"

Q: You’ve made a deal with Kandarin? I’m afraid I’ll have to ask you the same question I asked of the republic of Varrock, do you have any concerns dealing with a monarchy, particularly one with such strong ties to the slave trade?

A: I and the other syndics understand that if we didn’t associate ourselves with nations that allowed slavery we wouldn’t have anyone to associate with.

Q: Well that are states like Asgarnia and Forinthry that take a stronger stance on it. Nevertheless do you mind my asking how you view your other neighbor the Dutchy of Lumbridge?

A: I feel a great pity for their citizens, living so close to the only truely free state in existence. As for their government I, at least respect the Dutchess for owning to her tyrannical ways. As opposed to Varrock which flowers their name with false titles.

Q: Might I ask what your vision for this region is once the war is finished?

A: You may but my vision does not matter as it is ultimately up to the people to decide what happens here in the long term. In the short term once the land has been consolidated, Port Sarim will be organized into a new Peasant Republic which will be in union with the one in existance at Draynor.

Q: So a new syndic will be chosen for the new republic?

A: Indeed and a new one for Draynor as well. Then another new Syndic will be chosen for the United Peasant Republics as a whole.

So big plans for the new revolution and a clear dislike for Varrock, whether or not this rhetoric will eventually turn into action in the face of the currently lucrative trade deals is another matter.

Darkness growing beyond Forinthry’s borders

Although it may alarm some readers the Gazette feels compelled by civic duty to warn the citizens of Gielinor of a growing threat from the north. The Gazette understands that this threat takes the form of a plague of abominations that is steadily spreading from Forinthry into nearby regions.

When questioned Zamorak’s Union informed us that Lord Pyro (de facto ruler of Forinthry as Lord Regent) was unavailable for comment about this ongoing catastrophe.A spokesperson for the Union who refused to be identified has explained that the monsters are being released into the wild by the so called “Cult of Mah” based in Deamonheim and its immediately surrounding regions.

We are warned that the creatures are magical in nature and reportedly capable of shapeshifting which adds to their reputedly impressive adaptability. Officially we have been told that these creatures are contained to the local area by Union forces but unofficial reports suggest the creatures have managed to break though in several places. There are as yet unconfirmed reports of the creatures showing up in Mithalin, Asgarnia, Morytania and across the mountains into Fremennik territories.

The Union spokesperson did reiterate a 1,000 gold bounty available for each abomination slain and brought to them. "The greatest endeavors are achieved because of their selfless intent"

A new hope for Varrock?

The creation of a new republic in Varrock opens up a new sense of hope for its population. To find out if it is all as good as it sounds we caught up with a key figure of the new government, Marilynn Holder, Chief Secretary to the Grand Chancellor.

Q: So starting with the most obvious, what led Varrock to become a republic?

A: The idea of a republic has been a concept in this region for some time now. When coming together to draft this new government her Most Serene Excellency and her collaborators had the perspectives of the many, not the few in mind.

Q: Can you talk us through what you know of her Serene Excellency’s vision for the city?

A: Her main focus will be on the health and education of the citizens. In addition she wishes to bring trade from all corners of the world and build valuable diplomatic relations with foreign governments. Her desire is to build a diverse and prosperous republic with the means to better itself well into the future.

Q:What more can you tell me about the Health and Education reforms you mentioned?

A: Many great cities have poor sewerage systems which don’t do us any good. She hopes to improve these systems so that the streets are cleaner and chance of disease is reduced. She desires to bring public reforms of education to her people by funding and opening schools throughout the republic without a cost to the people so that citizens from any social class will have access to education and the opportunities it promises.

Q: You’ve chosen to involve yourselves with Camelot, which is of course part of the Vekonic regime. Is your republic really comfortable associating with a group that is both a Monarchy and a supporter of the slave trade?

A: Her Most Serene Excellency understands that trade with the Kingdom of Camelot welcomes new and diverse business into the republic, and that the agreement made with their government is essential to the funding of the health and education reforms we spoke of. Q: Of course, of course. On a rather different note I’m sure you’re aware that the republic of Draynor is currently making aggressive moves against the established rulers of Asgarnia, what is your take on this as a fellow republic, do you support the actions taken?

A: Here Most Serene Excellency is constantly assessing the situations with her advisers and defensive command, so as to ensure that it does not interfere with the health and safety of the republic. As such she receives frequent updates so that her government may be able to respond appropriately when need be.

Q: I’ve heard some rumors about a diplomatic incident between the republic and the Kingdom of Camelot that occurred very recently, could you comment on that?

A: As of this moment the details of that incident are still being discussed so we could not comment on it at this time.

Q: But you can confirm that the Grand Chancellor’s son was involved?

A: The incident did involve a representative of the Grand Republic of Varrock.

Q: What do you think is the biggest issue W42 faces at the moment?

A: There are several things thoug I will say that one of the most important issues seems to be a lack of creativity. Everything seems repetitive like people are trying to recreate the same thing over and over again. I believe we need to start introducing new and exciting concepts/ideas into the community rather than the same old stuff to encourage more people to join in. Falador: The revolution expands

The Gazette has recently learned of a growing uprising within the walls of the White City of Falador. A number of protesters in blue armor have starting taking to the streets and demanding that the government be held accountable for actions they consider unacceptable.

Accusation by the protesters include that the government has “ ordered the unification of unholy men with soldiers of Saradomin” and is “allowing these men of evil to murder [...] without repercussion” The Gazette has no independent verification of these accusations at this time.

At the current time of printing, the revolution is still to only believed to have limited support from the population, with it’s main power base being around the area known as ‘The Dens’ (reputedly the lowest rent region of the city). Strange sightings down south

The Gazette has had reports of a strange fog rising above the entire forest south of the Feldip Hills and of unusual activity in the area. Rumours abound that this may in some way be related to the increased bandosian activity in the Feldip Hills and other major areas of bandosian control. The Weather

Heavy rain continues to come down on most of Northern and Central Kandarin, becoming lighter and more sporadic the further south you go.

Over the border in Asgarnia we are starting to see the snowfall seriously picking up in the northern territories particularly Burthope with considerably less as we move south. Falador can expect only light flurries for now that may or may not settle. Further south still in Sarimia we are mainly expecting sleet, heavy rain and hailstorms.

Over in Mithalin the skies still remain clear for the time being although the easterly wind will inevitably blow the rain and snow in their direction eventually. In the meantime the region is experiencing dry if particularly cold conditions, with a significant wind chill factor so don’t forget to wrap up warm folks.
