Hi, Hallcha here, resident noob-expert. First suggestion: Read the sticky Help Guide, maintained by my esteem comrade RiDaku. Now, a few basics that set RSRP apart from the most other communites I've personally been in.
Your Player Character and your RP characters are entirely seperate, skills don't transfer but neither do limitations, go nuts.
Your outfit doesn't have to be exact, it can be general guide but differences including species can be described, and no in-game actions directly imply an RP action except moving the position of your character. It's all in chat text.
NPCs that you see don't exist. Occasionally a GM will describe numerous invisible background characters, or someone will have a companion pet/servant/etc they action out fully, but other than that, it's only the players. (This one varies somewhat by clan, but is generally accepted.)
A follow-up to the top, most clans acknowledge "Player Owned Cities/Kingdoms", a type of roleplay where a character played by a member of the community is the new King/Queen/etc. of an area, and essentially all tiers of the government are character-run instead of the NPC leaders.
A follow-up to that follow-up, a lot of roleplay revolves around the politics and interaction of these player kingdoms, leading to the rise and fall of royal families and empires, and occasionally a settlement or landmark will shift control from it's canon kingdom to another, or become independent.
PM in-game if you have more questions, I'm happy to help.
This is a signature, and I am not creative.
