• High treason, murder and espionage are capital crimes and incur the death penalty.
• Manslaughter, assault, sedition, desecration, fraud, kidnapping, intimidation and banditry are all felonies which incur serious penalty. That penalty can be death, or it can be a manner of exile or outlawry. In milder cases, a long term prison sentence may be required.
• Perjury, blackmail, perverting the course of justice, forgery, bribery, incitement, theft, smuggling and tax evasion are all misdemeanours which incur intermediate penalty. That penalty will usually encompass a moderate period of incarceration, or a fine.
• Breach of the peace, public indecency, contempt of court, vandalism and trespass are all petty crimes which incur small penalty. These punitive penalties are either fines, or being placed within the stocks for public humiliation.
• Slander and libel, breach of contract, divorce and recovery of damages are all civil matters to be arbitrated by the court. These trials do not result in a punishment, as they will require one of the parties to make payment and conduct actions in reparation to the other. Refusal to meet the ruling, however, will result in a trial for contempt of court.
• Separate laws exist for the administration and arbitration of Magical criminal matters, and are covered by the Misthalite Magical Code.
The new Abuse of Magic Act that has been put in place states that anyone using magic in a way that is dangerous or irresponsible will face a punishment suitable to the severity of their misuse.
• The use of Zarosian magicks known as the "ancient" magicks may be punished on a case by case basis due to its inherent dark nature, and the potential collateral effects of those spells.
• Necromancy in all forms is completely illegal, and the use of the necromantic arts in any way will earn an express execution.
• The art of using alchemy to create currency is illegal and anyone found doing so is liable to be punished as if they were guilty of fraud.
All faiths, aside from the doctrines of Bandosianism and Zarosianism, will be allowed to preach and gather freely within Misthalin for peaceful purposes. The two banned faiths are outlawed due to the distaste felt towards those faiths' tenets and practitioners. However, it remains illegal for any faithful group to act violently.
As usual, Varrock Cathedral will be consecrated as a Saradominist place of worship. The same status stands for Lumbridge Church, which serves the south of Misthalin. These will both be operated by an independent Church of Misthalin. The shrine that was once hidden in the slums will be allocated once more to the Zamorakians, allowing them the right to meet in peaceful sermons and rituals.

The primary and ruling Noble house of Misthalin has been the long-running House Lansing. Known for their own special brand of witchcraft and their strong leader-types, there's a reason the Lansings have been on the throne for so long. The current Monarchs are Queen Rhoslyn, daughter of the famous Katrina, and her husband King James, former Duke of Lumbridge. Rhoslyn's older sister Kylara is the Duchess of Lumbridge and the Matriarch of this house.
The wealthy Vernet family are a bunch that tend to stay out of the public eye, making their fortune primarily off of mining. Recently the duelist Troy Vernet, a member of this house, has risen through the ranks and landed himself position Captain of the Guard.
