Dawn
The night before, the Prince's host had traversed the woodlands of the northern province of Blackmarch, setting out north of Silverhill on a hunt. His company was few, only about twenty or so, with noble men who were sworn vassals and members of the gentry, and their sons, as well as a small number of his retinue. There the host, Prince Arthan, would entreat his company with food and wine, and, speak of the trials and tribulations of the days to come.
By morning, as the Prince's camp began to stir, and, his personal steward was to attend his chamber. However, an unexpected shift in plans brought the Prince's company to be gathered in the common hall, where before the noble men and gentry, he announced the Prince Arthan's passing. Subsequently, the steward and the designated commander of the Prince's retinue detained those present on the estate for the time being, as the implications of a murderous plot took root.
As the Prince's company were detained as potential suspects of murder, his steward convened the government in being and by reviewing the Prince's will, determined that his cousin, Charles of the House of Serrett-Sterlant, would succeed him as Duke of Lassaria, and rightfully inherit all lands and titles possessed therein by law.
Following these events, the steward sent word to Falador and to the regent of Burthorpe in the late Prince's absence, of Arthan's passing. As per the laws of succession in Burthorpe, the Estates General have convened to govern in the capacity of a provisional assembly, until they elected a new Prince to succeed Arthan.
