If it were possible to mass contact this forum's more regular mods in-game then I would do so. Unfortunately, it is not. As such, attempting communication via the forums is the most efficient method of communication. Until in-game mail is implemented and we are capable of off-line back and forth communication, then we're going to have to resort to the forums.

Which is why our community uses them so much. I'd say that we're one of the more forum-active communities that RS has simply due to the fact that many of us are in different time-zones.

As we are not a part of a mega-guild with a singular website, we lack a more efficient method of communication.

And, as a long-time veteran of the community and regular user of the forums, I must admit that it irks me when people make troll threads. But those are locked -- no trouble. Thus, my second pet peeve is a problem caused by our forum rules being incredibly out-dated. This simple fact has caused friction between members of our community and the forum moderation team for years.

On one hand, in the rules, storyesque threads are tolerated. In the following point of our forum rules, they are discouraged due to the supposed 'biography' threads. Few, if any of these, have ever existed in our forums. The reason for that is simple: it's hard to update a bio with recent information when you are limited by posts. As such, people only ever have very short character bios in their clan threads (and they are usually only posted for application purposes).

The FAQ happens to be dated as well and doesn't address some of the more pertinent questions relevant to our community.

Updated rules, I think, would make your job easier and help new and veteran members of the community alike.

But would it even be possible for us to suggest new rules for our community forum? How would we go about doing this? Is there a higher JaGeX authority that we must communicate with to go about that, or would we have to deposit suggestions on the forums for them to be forwarded to JaGeX?

Hello

It wasn't that long ago that the forum specific rules for this forum were updated and, in fact, they were updated based on the community's input.

The typical process is:

1. set up a thread where discussion can take place about the forum specific rules and, after discussion, make a draft of what you would like.

One of the things I remember about the previous discussion that resulted in several changes is: some wanted rules or policies that were against the general forum rules (the Code of Conduct). It is important to remember that forum specific rules need to be within the Code of Conduct.

2. finalize the draft and an f mod (most likely me) would pass that along to the Community Management team.

3. The Jmods would review your recommendations. In the end, the decision would be in Jagex's hands.

I can also give the Community Management team a heads up that the community has a thread to discuss the forum specific rules.

Let me know if I can help in any other way.

P.S. The FAQ is a separate issue, but the general process is the same. I say this because the FAQ sticky has traditionally been considered a community thread. There was also a thread discussing it when the host changed hands. If the community wishes to discuss the FAQ, it would be best to have it be a separate discussion from the forum specific rules.

Thank you for the swift response.

I guess that this thread could suffice as a platform for discussing a revamped set of forum rules. My only personal recommendation is that we be given a bit of leeway for random discussion threads so long as they're relevant to the in-game roleplaying community.

I do recall the rules being revised at some point to include a ban on blacklists but that was several years ago. Why it wasn't covered by the rules against 'name and shame' to begin with is beyond me. But I digress.

Concerning the 'FAQ', I was referring to the 'FAQ' portion of this sub-forum's rules.

Well, it's kind of on you now to continue the discussion and deposit your ideas. The whole point of revamping the rules is to have an area in which people believe that they can discuss just about anything, so long as it's community-relevant with the added bonus of potentially eliminating frictions with the fmod team.

I just dropped in to give you the opportunity to open discussions -- the rest is on you.

Oh, I misunderstood about the FAQ. I thought you meant the guide and help thread. My bad.

Yes, that can take place on the same thread.

Would you like this thread title to be changed to
hmm

something like

Forum Specific Rules Discussion

(I think I'm one space over the limit, but could do ForumSpecific together)
