The "good" guys, ahem, protagonists, always get too much love. If you look deep down in the darker parts of your soul.. You'll eventually discover something you'd never dare admit: Sometimes, the "bad" guy or antagonist is whom you most admire. Well, I can assure you that your secret is safe with me...

So, who is your favorite antagonist, villain, or even antihero? And why? They can be from movies, video games, books, anime, anywhere.

Furthermore, if you're creative, feel free to generate your own out of thin air or by creating an amalgam of existing villains, antagonists, or antiheros and express why you love them.

Although this thread is asking for concrete examples.. It is fundamentally an exploration of a deeper abstraction from which these concrete examples emerge: The human shadow. I am a light within the RuneScape forums. Not just any light, but the light of Diogenes searching for a single honest person.

Although I am my own worst enemy, if I had to pick an antihero that I admire it would be Deadpool aka Wade Wilson.

I like his humour when he kills the bad guys.

Also I like Ryan Reynolds the actor who plays him in the Marvel franchise movies.

For my villain, I'd like an amalgam of Dark Knight's Joker and Kefka Palazzo from Final Fantasy 6.

Consider his words, the context, and the music in the background. He's in the middle of a desert and demands that his inferiors wipe the sand off his boots - an absurd action considering they're in the middle of the desert. They rush to fulfill his demands and he laughs in their face calling them idiots. Furthermore, the message this scene conveys is heightened by what almost sounds like a clownish theme song. It's brilliant. Kefka is the embodiment of active nihilism. "Existence is an absurd joke." His response? To destroy everything. And he succeeds in doing so within the game.

My only issue w/ Kefka is that he isn't the intellectual powerhouse I'd prefer him to be. In fact, neither is the joker necessarily... But it's what I have to work with.

Joker creates social experiments and shows people they aren't the heroes they pretend to be. He creates no win situations for those he is contending with. Unlike Kefka, he appears to just want to play psychological games with others. Kefka, on the other hand, wants all games to come to an end. I am a light within the RuneScape forums. Hannibal Lecter.

I love him for his intelligence and cunning abilities. He was an accomplished chef.

I hate him because he was a serial killer and a cannibal. He cooked his victims using tasty herbs and spices. Then he ate them.

He started out by killing the Nazis who killed his sister. Eating them was a sort of ultimate revenge. After killing the last Nazi, he continued his killing spree and cannibalism because he had developed a taste for human meat. This is only a theory, since it was never revealed exactly why he continued killing and eating his victims.

He killed anyone who annoyed him for any reason. He killed and ate a Flutist because he found the flute playing annoying.
