The diversity of ability and skills based on the posts I've read is so interesting.
It's nothing too interesting but I'm currently working as a deputy manager at a care home for young adults with various mental health issues. I'm not sure how to describe it but it's a lot of report writing, reviewing care plans and stuff, teaching skills to clients to help them manage their emotions and improve their quality of life, supervising/mentoring staff, and attending a crap-ton of multidisciplinary meetings. I've probably learned more about mental health at this job than 3 years of studying undergraduate psychology.
I'd planned to do a masters in integrative counselling a couple years ago but ultimately felt it wasn't the right path to take since it was a full-time course and I've got other shit to pay for. I've recently applied for a PGcert in low intensity cognitive behavioural therapy since there is also a paid placement involved. After that I'll study for a full masters in cbt.
I'll unfortunately get a dip in my salary for the next year if I get a placement but I'll eventually earn a shitload more. Plus it's my dream career so my partner and I think it's more than worth it.
After all this time I'm still undecided if I want to go for a PhD or not, but I'm not as interested in research anymore, so I'll most likely stay as a clinician full time.
I've considered different things numerous times over the years, but nothing has resonated with my core as much as psychology and mental health in general.
