Brace, brace. At 3pm today — even if you are at the cinema, having an afternoon nap or overtaking in the fast lane of the M1 — your mobile phone will vibrate and emit a very loud alarm to test a new public alert system.

It will last about ten seconds, be “no more prominent than the loudest ringtone setting on a mobile phone”, and is intended to warn the public if there is a danger to life in their area, such as flooding. The message will be received by every mobile with 4G and 5G.

Did your phone go off? Mine did but quite a few didn't.

I actually did not receive any alert on my IPhone. I’m guessing it didn’t happen to every user. Brassica Prime:

I thought it would be louder too, but I guess it's to 'not cause harm' to those unaware of it. Bob says:

I believe Three had some issues, which might explain why you didn't get the alert.

I don't have an IPhone but here in NZ we get all emergency alerts and tests regardless of what phone you have. Unless your phone is obsolete.

I turned it off as I didn't want to scare my Parrots.

Any strange noise they don't like and wow they kick off big time lol.

I did hear it though on a few videos and I'm happy I turned it off. They would have ripped the bars off their cages and attacked me.

Also not everyone in the UK got the message. So the test although good was also a fail for some.

See when the next 1 is and see how much it cost. :P
