Hello! I wrote a bit of something. Here in the united states its National Mental Health Awareness month. I hope this is okay to post here and it seems worthy as a good supportive boost to anyone that may need it...and sorry for the poor grammar and spelling! :)

Would like everyone to take notice it is National Mental Health Awareness Month. Even if it is currently not happening where u r it has affected everyone in some way. Wether it has been friends family co workers fellow classmates or even yourself.

I have experienced mental health challenges in life and have been seeing professionals nearly half my life. I first experienced suicidal actions and thoughts when i was about 14 shortly after the death of my mother on October 4th 2004 and then my father figure a few months later after hers on March 14th 2005.

As I am no stranger to loss of friends and family I can understand how difficult the path is for many people out there that may feel the same about depression and other disorders of the mind. After seeking help I slowly but surely recovered to who I am today. I only wish I got the help I needed sooner. With all this said I hope if anyone out there that has felt the same or knows someone you can always reach out to them or someone you know! Remember, professional help is one of the best types of help you can get! You are never alone and they're others out there that fight all sorts of mental disorders along side you. Life is just a battle that I hope everyone believes is a gift and a precious thing to have. Be safe and never give up friends! <3

We had a young girl come through the hospital last night whom was reportedly suicidal. Throughout whatever drug-induced or physiological state that she was recovering from, she started to swing at the staff.

Some time later, she was far more calm and compliant and apologized profusely for her combative behavior, reiterating that-that was simply not who she was.

I have many stories similar to this :P . But tl;dr, mental health is extremely important and something that you as an individual need to maintain independently. As important as medications and therapy can benefit someone's brain, you ultimately choose your own path.

With all that said, live your best life -- surround yourself in an environment of people that want you in their life and places that you want to be in; because "you only live once" :) .

Unfortunately due to recreational drugs, Drug induced psychosis is far too common. And because people without self induced conditions can't get help they refuse to treat them, partly for struggling for staff partly because it's self induced. Sad world we live in, I spend more time than ever going to mental health calls for service, yet I've only sat a day in a classroom to learn about it. Everyone preaches get help, ask if you need it. In reality people don't and won't. And that will continue for the foreseeable :(

Mental health is an important topic that is only just starting to get the more widespread attention that it deserves.

Mental illness can be a terrible and debilitating thing, even (perhaps especially) for those who don't appear to actually be struggling.

Thanks for making this a sticky thread, Rooh.

Thanks for posting this thread, Beani Baby. The topic at hand hits close to home for me.

A couple of friends of mine and some family members are currently struggling with their own mental health issues. It's a very hard stage to endure and to go through, for those that are capable of maneuvering their way out it. With that in mind, I am always available for these people and I am always contacting them to let them know that they are important to me and to those around them that continuously show them love and appreciation. A mere text saying, "Hey, how are you feeling today?" can make a tremendous change in their way of thinking and I am a witness of that.

For those that are struggling with mental health issues and/or have friends/family members/acquaintances that are going through this difficult stage in their life, please know that people love you and that you mean a lot to them. Most of the people that I have conversed with regarding their mental health issues have let me know -- one way or another; that is, implicitly or explicitly -- that they feel alone and that they feel "worthless". It's important to keep in touch with these people because their "loneliness" or "worthlessness", as they put it, may be what's causing them to think and react a certain way that most definitely can be fatal.

All in all, keep them in your thoughts and converse with them. It's what I do :) .

Mental health is so important.

I've had my struggles, and I've tried my best to help friends who have struggled with it too. I have a few friends who are having a hard time right now and I'm not sure what to do for them. I know there's only so much I can do via the internet but I try anyway.

:L Thanks for the thread!

I was misdiagnosed so many times it was crazy.

I have agoraphobia caused by years of an undiagnosed panic disorder. I completely understand why agoraphobic people get shut in their house, because I've already started the process. And, other than meds, the most effective treatment is exposure therapy. Lol.

Currently playing the stock market and paying down the mortgage to hopefully not have to work a traditional job soon. House will be paid off in 4 years, not sure about the stock market but have made impressive gains. Wish me luck.
And I swear I'm not going to let her know all the pain I have known

This is a very important topic which definitely deserves attention. Thank you for highlighting it. :)

I agree with Archaeox, in that there have been great strides in promoting awareness of Mental Health and Wellness issues, and that discussions concerning these are becoming more commonplace both in general society and the workplace. Unfortunately, there is no denying that those suffering from mental health disorders are still exposed to a certain degree of stigma. It is not all that uncommon to "discover" a family member, friend, or colleague suffers from mental health issues despite appearing "fine" externally. Unfortunately, sometimes we learn too late.

It's truly regrettable that people do not feel as safe in discussing the health of their mind as they would the health of their body. Imagine being able to discuss your symptoms of anxiety or depression as openly and as easily as you'd discuss cold or flu symptoms with a stranger. As I'm sure it's not hard to find people who would agree that we should be more open to these discussions, there are still alot of people who feel unease learning their doctor suffers from anxiety, or their therapist suffers from depression, or their pilot is being treated for schitzophrenia. The angst a person feels when receiving such a diagnosis, wondering if this will affect their job or future employability. These innate reactions will be much slower to change. Especially as we are just now discovering how to talk about it as a society.

I think one of the most insidious aspects of mental disorders is how it can destory a person's potential if left unmanaged (because it will never be cured, only managed). A person who is capable of so much is crippled and blunted by an unseen entity. It can destroy a person's ambition, sense of self-worth, relationship with family members/friends/spouses, career, and sometimes even their life.

As Beani Baby so eloquently wrote, there is help out there, and you are never alone.
