I've tried relaxing music/sound effects but find that I need absolute silence to fall asleep, my brain focuses on even the tiniest sounds.
By the sounds of that you need ear plugs and a night mask.
I've no need for either as right now im deaf in my right ear so sleep on my left side lol. Also have blackout curtains up to stop most of the light so it's dark in my room 24/7.

I've got both.
Not keen on earplugs, they're so uncomfortable (I've tried all types) but I do wear a mask sometimes, even though I have a blackout blind.
My bedroom is generally pretty quiet, I had secondary double glazing put in a few years ago.

...eat your last meal earlier and no caffeine past 4pm?
I don't eat after about 6pm and don't have caffeine (or eat anything spicy) after midday.

One thing that I found that helps with insomnia when it strikes me, is Mullberry Tea. One cup of that and I am off to dream land for the night.
Don't ever think the reason I am peaceful is because I do not know how to be violent.

Have you tried buying a new mattress or changing the elevation on one side?
This is actually a good idea. I changed pillows a few months ago and I noticed that I am sleeping a bit better after the upgrade. It might be worth it to explore that option.
I changed my pillow lastnight after having my old feathered pillows for over a year. I usually change them both every 12 months or so. Even though they have pillow protectors on to stop them dreaded brown dribble marks I still change them.
This time I got a Memery foam pillow. Special design they said on the advert. So it was cheap-ish so got 1. Tried it last night and felt ok. Got to sleep in good time. I however seemed to have over slept lol. I usually get up around 5-7am most days. This morning I got up at 10am much later then expected.
Now I'm not sure it's due to the new pillow or not. I'll see tomorrow what time I get up. I did however have a nice sleep.
The down side is my poor neck is stiff due to the new sleep position. I can't win lol.

Yep, I think I'll get a new bed and a couple of new sets of bedding in the near future.
Brand new crisp sheets always feel great.
