Several years ago, in the evening, I opened up the back door to let the dog in. I heard a loud buzzing that almost sounded like a low growl. My first impression was that it was a wild animal. I made sure the dog was in and slammed the door, not knowing what made the noise. I looked around the kitchen and saw a Cicada sitting on the window sill over the sink. I tried to grab it, but it flew off with the loud buzzing/low growl sound. Later, I found it on the kitchen counter, threw a towel on it and let it go outside.

Still waiting for cicada here. Last week has been very cold which i am sure has delayed them.

In the mean time, i am fascinated by the colorful variations in cicada coloring, Here is a picture to help the wait.

Cicada have been popular in Chinese art for millennia where they are seen as symbols of good luck.

We had fun gathering some up when they first emerged here two weeks ago. Got my daughters and husband to try a new food too. And yes I said food, we got them right before they molted, then let them molt in the wicker basket that we held them in.

Once that was done, into a sauttee pan they went with some olive oil, thinly sliced porcini mushrooms, thinly sliced leeks, and some fresh young asparagus, and just a splash of lemon juice.

I for one savored it, because it is such a rare treat, and not sure I will around next time to savor it again. My husband was a bit on the squemish side until he took his first bite, then went piggy on them. My daughters, ha they went in feet first for the wow factor of it and enjoyed them.

For those here wondering what they taste like, they do not taste buggy or gross or icky at all. They taste like shrimp but a little sweeter than shrimp.

No need to be sorry. You didn't make me click on the image to open it, my own curiosity did that. Lol. ^_^
edit to add: I like the picture of the golden cicada on a leaf. It looks like a brooch. If the real ones looked like that ( as long as they are small ) I wouldn't be so scared of them. I still wouldn't want them to land on me though.
