I suggest you watch some of the videos on YT to get an idea of what the game is about. Just bare in mind, some of the videos are old and some of the content has changed.
If you like reading, then look down the list of forums and read them. You'll get a whole different education. Geilnor is not all rainbows, cute Unicorns and faeries. There are monsters that want you anything but alive. NPCs that will tell you to get lost or don't want to talk to you.
There are PKers (Player Killers) who would rather see you dead. They will attack you in the lawless land of the Wilderness, there's the Duel Arena where you can put up a stake and the winner collects the spoils.
Unfortunately, you will run into privately owned bots that may make some skills difficult to play (like mining, low level monsters). In the past few years, they have gotten more sophisticated and may be seen fighting higher level monsters. These bots do not belong to Jagex. They are bought online and put into, not only RS, but other morph games, too. You will see them in large groups all doing the same thing. There is nothing you can do about it except report them ingame. Killing bots won't get rid of them.
You might run into players who try to scam other players by offering players gp or other items if they click on a link. Please don't do it, you may end up losing your account forever. Keep in mind: If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Trading is risky, too. I'm not saying you shouldn't, I'm saying be very careful and don't be too hasty to hit the "Accept" button. Wait a few seconds to see if the scammer suddenly starts removing items. Let them hit "Accept" first.
All in all, RS is a fun game. You can train you account anyway you want. There is no right way or wrong way, only your way. You can become a Melee Warrior, a Ranger, or a Mage...or...train all three. If you don't want to fight, then be a skiller. Have fun
