In my 50 plus years I come across double yoked eggs very occasionally, I wouldn't even say yearly and I go through a lot of eggs. Anyway i just finished a size 7 dozen pack and out of those 12 eggs I came across 5 double yoked eggs
I've never seen a triple yoked egg, apparently you can get them.
When I buy standard eggs from the supermarket in NZ getting a double yoked egg almost never happens, in fact I cant remember it happening. I have always known you can get double yoked eggs.
But I had a similar experience to you. A mate of mine came up from Waikato and he bought up 2 dozen free range eggs he got from a farmers market and they looked like real nice eggs (and they were), but out of all the eggs 6 or 7 were double yoked. The yolks were a stunning orange colour as opposed to the pale yellow colour you get in the supermarket.
I have no idea, or had it explained why this happened.
^These eggs were free range brought from supermarket. I've been buying free range eggs for 18 - 24 months now I would say and this is the first double yoked I've seen in many years I'm sure and I got 5 of them out of a dozen
Still can't get over it.
I wanted to come in here last week when I opened 3 double yoked, didn't have time at that stage, then I opened another one and thought I'll wait till I've opened all 12 and here I am with 5 double yoked eggs in one dozen packet. They were Heyden Farms eggs, never brought that brand before. They were nice eggs to break too.
Nice

In all the years I've eaten eggs. I have only ever found 1 double yoke. That was about 6 months ago when I was baking. I threw it away. Something in my head said do not eat lol. I know it's safe but I just couldn't eat it.
So for you to get 5 out of 12 eggs is awesome. Very rare too me thinks.
From Google.
By themselves, double yolks are fairly rare – you might find them in 1 of every 1,000 eggs. These eggs typically come from our younger hens who are still learning how to lay eggs. As you might expect, double yolked egg shells tend to be pretty big.
I kept open range hens for a number of years and we got double yokers regularly. Now I cant remember the last time I had a double yoker.
I also remember shop bought eggs were 95% (or so) white shelled, it was a housewife's myth that brown shelled eggs tasted better so was quite desirable to to get a browny. Now all shells are brown.
Last year we had 3 double yolked eggs in a half dozen pack of organic free range eggs from our local Co-op. I hadn't seen any double yolkers for many years and we haven't had any more since then.
I had a few young hens several years ago and one would regularly lay a large egg that contained two yokes. It was neat to get them as I had never seen it before. However, we were always worried for the health of the hen since these were very large eggs she was laying. The good thing is that she would not do it every single time and it became rare as time passed.
Ehh, I get one about once every 2 months. I bake a lot and eat eggs nearly everyday for breakfast. So about a dozen a week * 8 weeks = 96 eggs. So about 1 in 100 here.
And I swear I'm not going to let her know all the pain I have known
