What are your opinions on the present day British Royal Family?

As you will be aware, The British Royal Family does not have any political functions. Any such functions are delegated to Her Majesty’s Government (HM Government) and in effect operate independently of the Family and the Family plays a purely ceremonial role in its affairs. It has no active leadership element to any individual group and does not actively participate in other functions.

Is the Family a relic of the past? Or is it something that is still needed and worth keeping / is something to still be treasured, despite its lack of active role within every day life? What are your opinions on the Family / its members?

They've been there all my life so for me it'd be a bit weird if they weren't there.

I suppose they serve a purpose as a tourist attraction.

I think there's too many of them, they seem to breed like flies. I'd like to see them all self-funding maybe with the exception of the presiding Monarch, spouse and immediate offspring.

And dispense with all the crap of bestowing Titles on relatives for places they've never been and do nothing for - Cambridge, Sussex, Kent and so on.

The Royal family, specifically the Queen does still serve political functions, and as such I'll hazard this will be locked. The winner of the elections has to ask the Queen formally, to form the goverment. As well as she may disband the goverment or require the PM to step down. She is also immune from prosecution and fun fact, does not rewuire a driving license and the only person in the world not to require a passport, as all passports are issued in her name.

(I've just noticed you made the last thread to be locked) you can't remake a thread thsts been locked without special permission, unless you've gained this already, player friendly advice :)

The Queen is Head of State, which is definitely a political function.

Any discussion of the family inevitably means discussing potential future heads of state.

Aerox, your earlier thread was locked...
If you think the original lock was wrong, use FMR (you already know that).

The disclaimer that the royal family isn't involved in politics in any way doesn't hold water:

Please do not recreate this thread.
