Most of us probly' remember the good ol' days when RuneScape Fansites were booming and before we bookmarked the wiki/fandom pages for every question we have about the game nowadays.. the Fansites were our biggest source of information and tools! But.. now they seem to remain the former shell of the community they once were, barren, and now essentially all hubs for their in-game clan that even Discord could house more appropriately.. It's catastrophically tragic. But..!
With little hope to revitalize Fansites, or really even forum use in today's society, lets reminisce our most enjoyable memories about our favorite Fansites, here
? All in the hopes that some nostalgia pieces from the communities may be experienced once more, someday.

imo, RuneZone Radio was pretty ahead of it's time. Though a small niche of a demographic within the RuneScape community, it was pretty neat to see the concept development, offering news and discussions of everything RuneScape and then some.
RuneHQ was my one stop source for Quest guides and monster drops. The community there was exceptional in welcoming in new players to the site. It truly felt like you belonged to something greater than just a buncha' strangers playing a videogame for unhealthy hours, daily
. oof.
Tip.it was useful when using combat calculators and the like.
"OK, 2 more strength levels until level 93.. I'm so excited!!"
Man, those were the days/
Zybez was top-dog for oldschool
FashionScape
! You had a Santa Hat and were looking for an outfit to go with it? Oh man, search for the item in their database and you'll see 10+ other players who've already got you covered! Yea', you rock that d'chain!! lol.
I'm sure more examples are floating around in my brain rn somewhere, but that's for another time of not 1AM! So, looking forward to read anyone else's experiences over the years!! Please, don't be shy
!

RuneScape Central was my favourite fansite for skill and quest guides and item information back when I was a new player.
Community-wise I was on RuneVillage because it had a much friendlier and close-knit community, even when it grew larger it managed to keep the atmosphere of a small village where everyone knows each other and nobody locks their front door.
What was that site used for, for you personally
? I have never heard of that one!

RuneVillage even sounds like a community you'd want to be apart of
. It had to of had that cozy feel, for sure.

It was a close-knit community of like-minded RuneScape players.
Supposedly
, there was Jmod infiltration at some point and a bunch of the members/moderators there got Pmod invites all within a month or so.
It died off around 2008 or so, just as social media was rising. The guy who owned it, I dunno, he died or something.
Oh dang, well that sucks
. It's probly' for the best that it's no longer around. Overall, it sounds very similar to the times when Mod Infinity ran RuneZone when he was CM.
(which, on a side-note, my OP was corrected to RuneZone and not
RuneClan
-- can't believe I didn't catch that!)

Tragically, I'm sure that
if
any of the
fansites
we'll see resurrected or introduced in the future will only be utilized for their respective clans, in-which we see today with the few remaining. You're right though, new-age social media platforms have long ago replaced the RSOF with more rewarding and easier using for the user.
imho, as a business, I feel like the employees moving over to Twitter or Reddit, for example, to express their opinions and the like are a safer haven for them to communicate towards the player base should any of their posts be mistranslated. Where-as in the past where an employee said something off the cuff many years ago here on the RSOF.. you still see those gold-posted screenshots nowadays with players thinking "WOW! I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY SAID THAT ON THEIR OWN WEBSITE!!" Saying the same thing on Reddit? Eh, it's Reddit. lol.

I used to consult RuneHQ a lot and Tip.it sometimes, occasionally at the same time if I was confused about a Quest. I never got involved with the communities there at all.
Twitter I used for a time, Reddit for a very brief time but don't bother with them now (apart from very occasionally reading bits on Reddit).
I haven't got any fond memories at all, for me they were just tools to be used although I will be forever grateful to the people who saw to the content upkeep.
It's Wiki all the way for me now, as a consulting tool, I'm not involved with the community in any way.
I've used the RSOF for many, many years both as a community area and seeking answers. I still do, although most people have jumped ship now it's still a comfy old pair of slippers.
I doubt any fansite will recover or thrive these days - the Wiki is just so utterly comprehensive.
What was the Reddit and Twitter profiles like back then
? iirc, I never really followed those.
As for the Wiki, you're absolutely right, the non-praised heroes that manage upkeep are a blessing we as players do not deserve!
& Your comparison that the RSOF is being a comfy and old pair of slippers is hilarious and seemingly very accurate
. Slippers you wanna' throw away but you just can't because you've had em' so long and they've just become more of a sentimental piece but they still stink and need washed.. lol.
