I don't have Splatoon yet, but I'm putting it on my Christmas list. A bit concerned, though; I've never been a big multiplayer guy, so I'm afraid I might not play it that much.
It's teamwork based, the main online multiplayer, so if you're good at team work you'll love it
Turf wars team work helps but isn't quite as important as in ranked where you pretty much need to be good in a team, so if you're just after practicing a bit to start with I'd go with Turf wars (and trying out weapons you've bought in the equip section if you want), you can't get Ranked until level 10 anyway.
Splatoon also has a pretty good single player campaign called Octo-Valley so while the main focus is multiplayer there is some good single player action to be had.
200m Dunge, Rc, Mage and invention accomplished, + 120 Constitution/Slayer/Range/Summoning/Woodcutting/Mining/Defence/Strength and 110m fishing, got comp/MQC and 200m Fishing/Woodcutting/Mining as well as 120 herb/Farming/Cooking most 120s just Agility, Theiving, Hunter and Prayer left

Had a pretty good week on Splatoon it seems
, almost reached the 999999 turf inked cap with the Splash-O-Matic and got a B+ rank in ranked at last, seems the Custom Jet Squelcher is great in tower control, the Splash-O-Matic is great in splat zones and the Splatter shot Jr is great in rainmaker!
Also I'm level 47 now
and according to my Wii u playtime I've reached just over 290 hours in playtime in Splatoon since purchasing it in late July
200m Dunge, Rc, Mage and invention accomplished, + 120 Constitution/Slayer/Range/Summoning/Woodcutting/Mining/Defence/Strength and 110m fishing, got comp/MQC and 200m Fishing/Woodcutting/Mining as well as 120 herb/Farming/Cooking most 120s just Agility, Theiving, Hunter and Prayer left

Won a few more matches today, finally reached the Turf Cap with the Splash-O-Matic and got the rest of my gear's sub slots filled in
, trying to get the hang of throwing a burst bomb with splattershot at someone and then killing them with the main firing attack, should go nicely with it's fire rate once I've gotten better
.
200m Dunge, Rc, Mage and invention accomplished, + 120 Constitution/Slayer/Range/Summoning/Woodcutting/Mining/Defence/Strength and 110m fishing, got comp/MQC and 200m Fishing/Woodcutting/Mining as well as 120 herb/Farming/Cooking most 120s just Agility, Theiving, Hunter and Prayer left

Forgot to ask, did you get Splatoon for Christmas? Also with pokemon almost reaching it's 20th anniversary (pokemon itself has been around nearly that long since the Japanese Red and Green games first came out in Japan in 1996) it seems the people who work on Splatoon have caught on, as this weekend's Splatfest on Splatoon asks if you prefer Pokemon Red Or Blue (Japan gets Red or Green), I picked Red one of the reasons it was the first pokemon game a got (well, second after Pokemon Stadium)

Now that all the updates to the game have been released, I think it's a good time to finally critique the game to its full potential.
I am a die-hard Splatoon fan, for its soundtrack, for its variety of weapons and gear and the fast-paced, multiplayer gameplay. It is statistically clear that Splatoon has been a very successful game — and not just because it's a Mario trademark!
As opposed to many multiplayer games, Splatoon is one of those games where everything is acquired through playtime: buying weapons, gear and abilities are all available should players put in the effort.
There is no matchmaking aspect to the main game, Turf War, which is a mode where two teams battle to cover as much ground with their team's ink colour than the other. Because of this, you can often get plopped into an advanced team and get slaughtered! As discouraging as that sounds, you can slowly see yourself gain gaming experience, and with detemmienation you will see yourself getting 15 to 20 splats with a Splattershot Jr, the first weapon all new players start with.
The maps are incredibly diverse now, with spinning platforms, tide pools, moving trucks, cranes, conveyor belts and more. Some maps favour sniper-like weapons; some favour huge paint rollers; and some even favour every weapon where victories simply come from teamwork and skill.
I think one major thing that keeps me playing Splatoon is the regular Splatfests, a region-wide thematic competition where players choose to support one side, and have just 24 hours to secure their team's victory. I have won all 11 so far, including the most recent Pokémon Splatfest (finally, Marie).
Enough ramble. If anyone happens to love Splatoon as much as I do, perhaps we can share tips and advice for future games! Currently, I'm S-rank as a jack-of-all-trades inkling. Still trying to get that S+.
Happy Splatting!
PS: Great job, Team Pokémon Blue! We are victorious!

Yeah I agree the Splatfests are good, I'm in the EU I was on a winning streak for Fit/Money and Barbarian/Ninjas, the last two, I've been playing them since the North/South Pole and won the Messy/Tidy, Cats/Dogs, Fit/Rich and Barbarian/Ninjas.
I'm level 50 now so I have all the weapons
are you in the EU or US? I know US have different splatfests than EU.

Your tactics work in Turf War dominantly, that's for sure!
Yeah, I love Kelp dome because everyone's a winner in a map on Turf War, but especially so on that map (even if you lose you can get some amazing scores)

Had a 10+ win streak on turf war yesterday before losing a match, managed to lose only two games in about an hour
