I'm not sure, because I don't drink in public so have no need to know, but in the UK I think it's illegal to drink in public in certain areas of certain cities. Well, England at least, might be different for Scotland & Wales.

Down here in Southern England I can't even remember the last time I saw anyone drinking obvious alcohol in public so I guess it's not a big 'thing' here. Not including, of course, people sitting outside bars & cafes in the Summer.
