St George is the patron saint of many countries and areas:

Portugal, Georgia, Serbia, Bosnia Herzegovina, Venice, Genoa, Portugal, Ethiopia and Catalonia. Not to mention Lithuania, Palestine, , Germany, Greece, Moscow, Istanbul, Valencia, Aragon, Bulgeria, and parts of Brazil. Oh .... and England.

Allegedly born in Turkey his Mother took him to live in Syria. He joined the Roman Army and was subsequently imprisoned by them for years and executed in 303 AD.

So if you live anywhere in the World that has this 'dragon slayer' as a patron saint - I wish you a happy day with your celebrations :)

A firm favourite for many centuries. The first convent in Bohemia, founded in 973 AD at Prague Castle by the Benedictines, was dedicated to St George, for example :)
