Ugh, this is just not my week. Not only has my Ipod somehow mysteriously vanished from the living room cabinet (leaving its earphones behind), but some genius managed to spoil Clannad After Story for me, right when I had decided to finish it.
The title of the guys thread asks 'which came first, the movie or After Story. I figured that would b an easy 10 points since i could look it up on wiki, and right when I open the thread it says "*Spoiler* X does such and such" and I was like "NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!". A lesson to be learned, if your going to put spoilers, put them BELOW the warning, not right next to it.
But i can now defiantly say what is that makes Clannad my least favorite of the Key animes and what lead to my original droppage.
Two reasons. The first is that when they removed a large part of the cast, it seems to me that a large part of the life and interplay which made the first series so enjoyable to watch left with them. Tomoya and the Furukawa's can only carry so much interplay before it gets a little dull.
The second is that its become to 'serious buissness' long before the need for it to become series occurs. I understand why it becomes serious (the way its trying to present the idea of maturity and growth) but again, that robs alot of the life out of what it is that makes the watching enjoyable.
Another reason why im not as big a fan, specifically of After Story, is I got the impression that the first major emotional cli(m)ax(fail censor) was kinda botched, to many things occurring in the leadup meant that it never had that single emotional focal point that has accompanies other dyings, livings, rebirths, depressing revelations and people suddenly transforming into crows for no apparent reason.
To be honest, I would have proffered the first season with a more powerful ending.
